All flights out of Bangkok to be cancelled

PHUKET: All domestic flights serving passengers travelling into and out of Bangkok and other areas designated ‘dark red’ COVID high-risk zones will be banned from Wednesday (July 21) following an order by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT.)

The Phuket branch of Airports of Thailand (AOT Phuket), which operates Phuket International Airport, announced the ban this morning (July 19). The CAAT order was issued yesterday (July 18).

The announcement by the CAAT explained, “The CAAT has issued a ban on airlines from transporting passengers into or out of the dark red areas from the 21st of July.”

The dark red zones were named in the order as the provinces Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Chonburi, Ayutthaya, Chachoengsao, Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala and Songkhla.

The CAAT noted that the ban will remain in effect for 14 days as a “preliminary measure”, but also noted that the order will remain in effect until further notice, or “until the situation returns to normal”.

All airlines were ordered to take action to assist any passengers affected by the flight ban, including flight cancellations and reschuled flights.

Any flights still being operated by domestic airlines were ordered to ensure that flights did not exceed 50% passenger capacity. However, the order noted that passengers travelling together may sit together.

All other COVID-prevention measures already in effect are to be enforced, such as all staff and passengers are to wear face masks at all times during the journey and that passengers do not exhibit any signs of infection and have the required documents to travel where necessary.

All passengers are to be screened for elevated body temperature and checked for any signs of infection before being allowed to leave any airport, the order also noted.

“The Civil Aviation Authority will closely monitor the measures to bring Thai aviation back to normal as soon as possible,” the order concluded.

Yep saw that. Bottom line, if you are in Provincial Thailand and want to leave the country, forget it you are stuck.

Indirectly they are. A friend booked to leave UK to Thailand today recieved notice yesterday that the BAE flight was cancelled. No reason given and no mention of a refund.

That would have been a code share with Qatar Airways. Here's today's arrivals at Phuket, including QA from Doha. The 3 domestic Nok Air flights shown are freight flights.

Well, checking the site for Chiang Mai airport, it looks like NokAir Flights DD 126 and DD 134 from Bangkok both arrived on time today. And flight DD8 hasn't been cancelled.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to fly to Bkk at the moment. Two week ASQ and a high chance you'd have another two weeks at your destination, possibly in their quarantine not one you choose.

Quarantine once you've done the first one is all 'self-quarantine' as far as I know.

I've heard both Chiang Mai and Buriram have their own quarantine facilities for high risk arrivals.

With the way things are at the moment, I wouldn't want to gamble on how they define "high risk".

It won't be someone who's tested negative 4 times in the previous sixteen days, which is a requirement on asq.

Weren't you absolutely insistent that there was no way you could have had COVID when you got off the plane to Bangkok?

And yet others could be considered high risk after two weeks of quarantine with tests?

Business class must have been well worth the money.

    You almost got my point.

Provinces decide who they let in and under what conditions, and there is nothing to stop them making stupid decisions in a crisis.

Clickbait headline. Domestic flights might be “cancelled” but international flights are still very much active as long as you stick to the mainstays that have been known to be operating this whole time.

And if I needed to leave I’d just hire a car to drive me to Bangkok as I’m sure just like if the first “lockdown” on the mainland there are fuckall checkpoints and people still gotta move around.

Yeah, it wasn't the military last time. But go ahead and try it, should make a great story.

Gen Chalermpol Srisawat, Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTAF) commander-in-chief, ordered 88 checkpoints in Bangkok be set up to accommodate the partial lockdown, while another 22 checkpoints were erected in surrounding provinces and 35 more in the four southern border provinces.

I was looking at flying there this week or next to buy a motorbike a bloke was selling, but doesn't really matter much now.
