The father of a missing woman says the family are at a “complete loss” after her tragic death was confirmed overnight.
Steve Hodgkinson received the “worst news imaginable” from Japanese police who discovered his daughter‘s body eight days after she went missing.
Alice Hodgkinson, 28, was in Japan working as a schoolteacher before disappearing eight days ago without a trace. Concerns for the Nottingham woman mounted after she failed to turn up for work at an English language school in Yokohama.
Local police broke into her apartment, finding a note addressed to her dad and brother. The contents have not been disclosed. Her body was recovered, however details of the tragedy are still sparse. Authorities ruled out foul play and are not searching for anybody in connection with her death.
Her worried friends in the country, where the Edinburgh University graduate had been living for more than a year, launched a poster campaign in a bid to find her.
“We were notified last night. Police told me that had found Alice’s body. It was the worst news imaginable,” father Steve said.
“We’ve not decided what is best to do. If we go out there we’ll need to quarantine in a hotel for two weeks. But we need to bring Alice home.
“Close family are aware. It is not a murder investigation and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with her death.”

Mr Hodgkinson said he last spoke to her around Father’s Day after receiving a present, claiming his daughter was “absolutely fine” and didn’t share a hint of distress.
Her heartbroken father had previously told how he was "anxiously waiting by the phone" for news on his daughter just days before her body was discovered.
“I’d got a Father’s Day present from her, a membership to Sheffield University Theatre, and I responded with an email thanking her,” he said.
“She then sent an email in reply, that was our last communication and everything seemed absolutely fine.”
Mr Hodgkinson told how Interpol had joined forces with Nottinghamshire and Japanese police in the search for Alice as her frantic friends in the country where she has lived since March last year launched a poster campaign in a bid to help find her.
He described his single daughter as “a bright young lady and quite outgoing in sharing her views on veganism, animal welfare and human rights.
“She was a bit of a loner at times, not the partying type and not looking for a relationship," he said.
Steve, who is divorced from Alice’s mum Julie, 63, added: “We are at a complete loss and her mother is struggling, she’s beside herself with grief.”
In a statement issued by Nottingham Police on Friday, the family paid tribute to their daughter.

Alice’s mother Julie, father Steve and brother Peter said: “Alice was an intelligent, adventurous, confident, caring, young woman with a tremendous sense of humour and news of her death has hit us hard as a family as you might imagine.
“She will be sorely missed and we would ask that our family is left in peace at this difficult time so we can come to terms with what has happened.
“We would also like to thank all those people, both in the UK and Japan, who have worked so very hard to raise awareness of Alice‘s disappearance and provide practical support.
“Their support at this difficult time has been truly humbling. Thank you one and all.”

    I'm a little baffled.

The heartbroken family of a missing teacher working abroad have spoken out after police recovered her body eight days after disappearing.
    Five days after disappearing:

Teacher Alice Hodgkinson, 28, missing in Japan as family launch desperate appeal

Alice Hodgkinson has been missing since July 1 from her home in Kanagawa after failing to turn up for work in Tokyo

It took them three days to check her fucking apartment?

Have they been receiving training from the BiB or something?

The police haven’t said where she was found. She was probably in some place famous for suicide so they won’t announce it.

Something about leaving a note hints at that, doesnt it.

I suppose this is a tad ambigous.

Will come out at the inquest.

Is there some legality that an adult needs to be missing 3 days before they are legally considered missing?

The police are hardly going to go round checking the abodes of every person that doesn't show up for work for 2 days.

I am pretty sure the note and the fact the case is closed strongly indicates suicide.

    That is quite evident.
Was it the single suicide in the world that day or why is it filed as news?

I think the reason it hit the headlines in the first place was

Japanese businessman acquitted over Lucie Blackman murder | UK news | The Guardian.
