China urges Afghan Taliban to fight against ETIM terrorists

    Updated 21:31, 28-Jul-2021

"Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday urged the Afghan Taliban to make a clean break with all terrorist organizations, including the East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM) and resolutely fight against them.Wang made the remark during a meeting with Taliban's political chief Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in north China's Tianjin Municipality.

The United Nations Security Council has designated ETIM as an international terrorist organization. The organization poses direct threats to China's national security and territorial integrity, Wang said. Therefore, it's a joint responsibility of the international community to fight against the ETIM, he added.

Baradar is leading a Taliban delegation to visit China. The group will never allow any force to use Afghanistan's territory to harm China's interests, said Baradar.

Taliban's role in Afghanistan's peace process

Baradar is a co-founder of the Afghan Taliban and head of the group's political office in Qatar. It is the first time that a senior member of the organization has visited China since fighting between Afghan government forces and Taliban fighters escalated in recent months.

Wang told Baradar that China always respects Afghanistan's sovereign independence and territorial integrity and never interferes in the country's internal affairs, stressing that China pursues a friendly policy toward all Afghan people.

Afghanistan belongs to the Afghan people and its future should lie in the hands of its people, Wang said.

Since U.S. troops began their final withdrawal from Afghanistan in early May after almost 20 years of fighting, Taliban fighters have ramped up offensives against the government forces across the country. The Taliban's supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada said earlier this month that the group "strenuously favors" a political settlement to the conflict.

The rushed withdrawal of U.S. and NATO forces marked the failure of Washington's Afghanistan policy, Wang said, adding that the Afghan people now face an important opportunity to stabilize and develop their country.
Describing the Taliban as a key military and political force in Afghanistan, he said the organization is expected to play an important role in the country's peace, reconciliation and reconstruction process. He called on the Taliban to stay committed to peace talks and pursue an inclusive policy.

The diplomat called for solidarity among all parties and ethnic groups in Afghanistan, urging them to follow the principle of "Afghan-led and Afghan-owned" in advancing the peace and reconciliation process, and build an extensive and inclusive political arrangement.

Baradar hailed China a "trustworthy friend" of the Afghan people and said he appreciates the "fair and positive role" that China plays in Afghanistan's peace and reconciliation process.

He stressed that the Taliban is sincere about seeking peace and is willing to work with other parties to create an extensive and inclusive political arrangement that is acceptable to all Afghan people.

The Taliban believes that Afghanistan should develop friendly ties with its neighbors and the international community, he said.

The group hopes that China can play a bigger role in Afghanistan's peace and reconstruction process as well as economic development, he told Wang, promising that the Taliban will make efforts to improve the country's investment environment.

    An opinion:

"Taliban Seeks International 'Legitimacy' In Meeting With Top China Officials.

It's not an issue of seeking International Legitimacy, but rather, China is the only one with any positive plans to help Afghanistan out economically with its Belt and Road Initiative.

The U.S. certainly never did such in the 20 years it was there, and Afghanistan remained essentially a backwater country in trade, particularly when Afghanistan offers a lot in the way of rare earth metals to make electronic products.

Rare Earth metals are already something China leads in, but with Afghanistan now cooperating and coming into the fold with China, China will essentially have a monopoly on Rare Earth metals at that point.

It's really amazing how utterly idiotic the U.S. was for all these years, not to have recognized that, and done something to help the Afghans to get their economy on its feet. That would have done more than anything else to have stopped the fighting there, and provided the U.S. with a source of rare earth metals, to compete with China, but the U.S. could never see this.

Yep, the Taliban has sent representatives to China and China wants Afghanistan for their "silk road" to dominate the world.

China really doesn't care if the Taliban abuses its population with stone-age Islamic law.

That's what separates China from the west — China is evil.

Though, can't say I'm happy the U.S. is abandoning Afghanistan: Hope the U.S. supports the Afghani troops with airstrikes and training.

Taliban attacked UN office in Herat

HERAT (Agencies): Taliban militants again attacked the office of the UN mission in Afghan Herat, Afghan Defense Ministry spokes-man Fawad Aman said.

“The Taliban terrorist g-roup has again attacked the UN office in the Guzar district of Herat province. The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) are fighting and repelling the terrorists,” Aman wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense reported that the Afghan military recaptured the Guzar region in Herat province from the Taliban.

On Friday, the website of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reported an attack on a major UN infrastructure in Herat in the northwest of the country, killing one policeman. UN staff were not injured.

The entrance to the mission building was fired upon from small arms and grenade launchers. A local resident told RIA Novosti that the battles are taking place on the outskirts of Herat, in the city itself everything is under the control of security officials.

In Afghanistan, there is a confrontation between government forces and the Taliban militants, who have seized significant territories in rural areas and launched an offensive against large cities. Instability in Afghanistan is growing amid promises by the US administration to complete the withdrawal of troops from Afghan soil by September 11.

In 2020, Washington and the Taliban signed in Doha the first peace agreement in more than 18 years of war. It provides for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan in 14 months and the beginning of an inter-Afghan dialogue after the exchange of prisoners.

    You think?

While the Afghans chose to eslave women and children. Rape and forced marriege (=rape) of 10y girls is something you prefer to ask about... later?

And what are you going to do on your high horse to help them?

I definitely think it was the right thing to leave (bin saying that for years), but a slightly less ignominious exit would have provided better optics.

We as a nation and me as an individual are accustomed to ignominious departures so no worries. Just what we do and sure will do again.

There was only one way to leave and the US did so. Afghanistan is going to fall backwards into the stone ages very quickly and the people, especially women, only got a reprieve during the occupation.

Stuffed either way, as Norts said
