11 People Test Positive For Delta Variant Of COVID-19 In Chiang Mai

The Chiang Mai Public Health office has detected 11 people infected with the Delta variant of COVID-19 in the province, while the provincial communicable disease committee has ordered limits on the sale of alcohol until the end of the month.

The 11 patients with the Delta variant were mostly infected after travelling to Bangkok before returning and spreading the virus among their relatives.

Provincial disease control chief Songyos Khamchai said yesterday the first two cases were engineers at construction sites who had been in contact with an infected colleague, before spreading the virus to two of their relatives.

Four other cases, linked to a group of architects working in Bangkok, tested positive for the Delta strain on Tuesday, before the virus continued to spread to three others in the Saraphi district.

Fortunately, the cases were detected quickly and are being monitored closely by provincial public health officials, he said.

Meanwhile, provincial permanent secretary, Kanok Sriwichainan, said the provincial communicable disease committee has announced it will only allow restaurants to open until 10.30pm, as well as limit the time that alcohol can be sold across the province to try to contain the virus.

Restaurants granted permission by the Excise Department will be allowed to sell alcohol until 9pm. The sale of alcohol in the province will be allowed from 11am-2pm and 5pm-9pm.

Violators will be liable to a fine of up to 20,000 baht under Section 51 of the Communicable Disease Act 2015.

Perhaps if the old bill actually manned the roadblocks like they are supposed to...

6,000 + cases in Thailand today, sounds like many cases being hidden possibly a tsunami scenario is actually happening but all in the aid of tourism, being hidden.

those pesky migrants causing all the problems again. possibly one day the Thai govt will be responsible, then again what foolish chatter that is.

    Knobends.

They should shut down interprovincial travel from the main provinces for 2 weeks.

The country doesn't need another lockdown in a month's time.

Was chatting with a few business people we're friends with yesterday, that just got to reopen their businesses 2 or so weeks ago, they simply said that if they have to close down again it will be the end for them.

Another lockdown would simply be soul-destroying for millions of people just starting to get back on their feet.

Lockdowns and easing of restrictions come and go -
The obvious reasoning behind any sudden surge/spike is reflective of the populations hesitancy [or indifference] to practice protocol. And still being the case worldwide, as the ebb and flow of infection is still quiet evident throughout most of the world.

The bug isn't going anywhere, especially applying to those who continue to muck around with their vaccination programs and subliminally continue to suggest that everything is ok.

Restricting the virus' ability to transmit would be a much more optimal choice.
Appears that a goodly percentage of the world's isn't getting it - as it rages.
