Moderna vaccine package priced at 3,400 Baht, pre-paid bookings to begin July 1

The US-made Moderna COVID-19 two-dose vaccine package will be priced at 3,400 Baht, or 1,700 Baht a shot, with payments for bookings made to be collected from July 1st, according to Thailand’s Private Hospital Association (PHA).

The common price, agreed for all private hospitals, is inclusive of service and insurance, while the advance bookings will let the PHA know the amount of vaccine needed, so a purchase order can be placed with the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), said PHA President Dr. Chalerm Harnphanich, adding that the hospitals are required to pay the GPO by the end of July.

With deliveries of the vaccine expected to begin in October, Moderna is the fourth vaccine to be approved by Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (TFDA). Two more followed in approval for emergency use in the country – Sinopharm and Pfizer, making the total six.

Moderna is to become the second paid alternative vaccine, after Sinopharm. Thailand is currently administering AstraZeneca, Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines.

We've booked these. Better chance we'll get them together at a private hospital. Not sure what hurts more, the injection or the price.

Fook me you are a cheap bastard. I would be more worried that the hospital has not kept the vaccine under proper deep freeze conditions.

To be fair, English teachers do need to budget carefully.

That was his drink money for the month.

    Its outrageous!

AZ is virtually free and easier to store.

Private hospitals are gonna make a fortune of the wealthy in Thailand.

Meanwhile the poor will die waiting and waiting because of the incompetence of those in charge.

With due respect to others, the price is not even a consideration. I got it free, my boy also. Only consideration is the missus, and on balance she is just worth it. But the deal breaker is the time. October is way off.

On the other side, i am wondering whether it is a useful thing to get the damn thing myself, over the astra stuff i have now....

Surely everyone needs to budget. And if you think that's my budget for alcohol for a month you vastly under estimate my lifestyle

That is good news for the vaxxer crowd with cash in their pockets. Come October we can start to see the results of the Moderna shots at a local level.

Yeah, it must be great to live in a country where healthcare costs aren't crippling.

    So 'civilized'.

Not only that, that's just slated delivery.

My bet is it won't be until next year that any meaning amounts / access is in place.

Can easily be determined with an antibody test.
