Hundreds of cats found after villagers complain of smelly home

Villagers made complaints of odor pollution coming from 3 homes in the village. Officials went to inspect the homes and found hundreds of cats trapped inside small cages. The cats have clearly been neglected as there are remains of dead cats in the cages with the cats that are still alive. The Rangsit mayor, the Save Elephant Foundation and other related officials have visited the homes to help save the cats. Officials inspected the homes on 15 June 2021 located in Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani.

The foundation has moved the cats to safer locations with hopes to place them in proper homes. Villageers in the area have made many complaints over a long period of time. Locals have been polluted by the smell and sound of cat’s day and night. The foundation has started to move the cats out of 3 homes. One of these homes belong to an 82-year-old woman who used to work in the government. So far 71 cats have been found in her home. Another home belongs to a husband and wife both 30-year-old. The foundation found 44 cats inside the couple’s home. This brings the total to 115 cats recued from the homes. Officials are still searching for more cats in all 3 homes.

The cats are currently in a cat hotel and are finally getting to run around after being trapped in tiny cages together for so long. There are more cats hidden in random locations around the homes hidden under trash piles. The remaining cats will be rescued after the trash is removed. The foundation has played a big part in saving the cats from a very bad ending. Though it is very sad that many could not wait any longer as cat remains are found in the homes. Officials wish to send a message to all pet owners to take care of their pets as it affects the animal and locals around the area.
