Thailand to Fully Reopen to Visitors Within 120 Days: PM

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand will fully reopen to visitors within 120 days after more than a year of coronavirus travel restrictions, a calculated risk required to support the economy, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said on Wednesday.

Thailand was ahead of target in securing 105.5 million doses of coronavirus vaccine for this year, and would seek more supplies next year, Prayuth said, according to a transcript of a recorded televised speech provided by his office.

We'll see but that would be outstanding. No more 14 day.... or is it 7...or is it 5 day quarantine. I lost track.

I doubt that the current quarantine policy will be trashed - more than likely minimalized to 4-5 days [???].
Or...perhaps they will lift it within this proposed 120 day period [from October], which was already enacted [and then retracted] a few months ago.

It certainly would behoove their plans/strategy a bit more when a goodly percentage of the population is vaccinated.....which is cruising along nicely now, after months of political delay.
Some of us are returning quite soon, regardless of the situation.

    Wishing all the best.

Any forecast of what things will be like in four months time is basically meaningless.

I think the only hope they have is that the masses might believe their utterances of opening up in 120 days!

I'm not even sure he will still be PM by then if the jungle drums have any truth to them.

More gormless posturing from bombastic tinpot generals only an idiot or vacuous American could credit.

Look, the UK with all its resources and being the first to release a vaccine developed in the West has only in the past month or so passed the halfway point in inoculating the general population, a process that began six months ago, and has yet to free itself fully from lockdown protocols including the testing of all arrivals into the country.

This medieval racist little tinpot state has only just begun and the junta is claiming it'll open in 120 days??!!

    They truly are beyond contempt.

I shall still not receive inoculation until October according to my latest contact with two private hospitals where I am registered in Pattaya and Bangkok.

    Oh sure.
You don't truly believe that any such change might make a difference, do ya?

The theatre remains the same, even while the players might change roles occasionally.

It's Jeff, the same clueless imbecile who's probably still convinced Tacky is coming back. Yeah right.

Just ignore him or tell him to fuck off, or both.

As it was yesterday's news, we now have...

    199 days to go.

Will be back tomorrow to update if ok?

I'm already wary when they announce things 2 weeks prior as many things can change until then.

Depends on how the vaccination campaign progress, the number of vivid cases and deaths, if no new strains appear...too many unknowns.

Wasn't the October 1st timetable for opening up the country announced a couple of months ago? The only thing new is that they are still on track for the original announcement.
IMO many things could delay or advance it.
    I am cautiously optimistic.

Another load of crap uttered by the clueless fool on the hill. More likely 320 days.
If he is so confident in this latest utterence why all OA visa holders now require COVID health insurance?
Nevermind. Stupid question. Profits for the gov issued authorized insurance providers.
The simple truth is the Thai government has made a complete bollocks of it's entire COVID response and has from day one fed it's citizens a steady diet of lies.
Nary a single person I know believes this lastest "mi pen rai" press release.
Pressure and dissatisfaction with the general and cronies require a response to ease the heat. Hence, as before, another bullshit press realease.

You haven't lived in this country. You do not read the news sources untainted by the regime's censorship and intimidation. You are a modern-day Candide still deluded by your sappy illusion this society is somehow not a snake pit of lies, avarice, corruption, ignorance, xenophobia, incompetence, nepotism, cronyism and a profound stupidity sustained by the general populace suckling on the teat of vacuous hope offered by a simplistic religion, crude animism and the superstitious belief of the savage scarcely emerged from a jungle existence.

Yeah, you suck on that lozenge of optimism, but in time you'll find it's a fucking lemon.

There are 69 million Thai, at least 2-3 million regional migrants and a Western community of 300,000 and around 120,000 Chinks.

So far, around 7% of the population have received one dose, and 2% have been fully vaccinated.

You do the maths but given that this regime has gambled its entire policy on the availability of stocks from a domestic manufacturer that had never produced a product in this field of research and was never anything other than a niche company, you shouldn't hold your breath waiting for your cautious optimism to bear fruit.

I received a text from my local private hospital asking me to pay 4,000 baht in order to book appointments, before the end of June, for my Moderna vaccine which might be available from October onwards.

Shitty little money-grubbing people, shitty little money-grubbing country.
