Last WWII Thai airman died at 102 years old

World War II ended 76 years ago before many of us were born, but this week, the last Thai airman who actively fought in World War II died at the age of 102.

Thai airman Choy Lodethanong died on Wednesday morning. At the age of 102, the death was considered to be of natural causes. Choy was part of the Royal Thai Air Force, a member of the Wing 5 who fought against Japanese invaders in the war in the middle of the last century. He was a decorated serviceman who was part of the brief conflict between Japan and Thailand.

On December 7, 1941, the infamous Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii prompted the United States to enter World War II. But an hour and a half before that attack (though it was December 8 with the time zone difference), Japan invaded Thailand in a 5 hour battle at Ao Manao beach in Prachuap Khiri Khan. Thailand hours later formed an alliance with Japan to invade Burma and the next month declared war against the US and UK.

Choy was 24 when that battle occurred, and he was amongst the Thai airmen, local police and civilians there at the time, who fought to stop the Japanese imperial troops from coming ashore at Ao Manao beach. To commemorate the 42 people who lost their lives during the 5-hour Japanese invasion, The Royal Thai Airforce holds a remembrance service every year on December 8.

The current commander of Wing 5 paid tribute to Thai airman Choy last year for his 101st birthday, presenting him with a birthday gift. After his passing, the Royal Thai Air Force contacted Choy’s family to express condolences. A royally sponsored cremation ceremony was held today at Wat Sam Roi Yot in Prachuap Khiri Khan after traditional funeral rites took place.

Considering the fact that the then Thai PM Pibunsongkhran was an admirer of Hitler and Mussolini, and also friend of Japan, the "5 hour battle" is to be taken with a bit of reserve...

It was Joseph <no name mentioned here> who admired Hitler among other reasons for his way of getting rid of people.

Ioseb Besarionis dze Jughashvili. You know, the one you pray to every night . . . your main man Stalin . . . you must hate Lavrentija Beria for poisoning him

Makes one wonder why so many mass-murderers changed their names . . . but then Heil Schickelgruber would be as silly as Privet Ioseb Besarionis dze Jughashvili aka 'just call me Stalin'.

The story on on a story board at the Royal Thai Air Force museum. On the 7th the Japanese Ambassador went to visit Pibunsongkhran but the PM was up country. He did not return until the next day but by then the attack started. Yada yada yada. I think 7 RTAF pilots were shot down.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

Your silly insinuation is very stupid. He surely was no admirer of Hitler, unlike the ones I mentioned. Perhaps you should look a bit in the history...

Anyway, is it something what have a connection to the OP?

    Just irrelevant 'whataboutism' then?

How did Hitler and Mussolini initially get introduced into this thread? Were they involved in the battle in Prachuap Khiri Khan?

If you cannot understand the inclination of the then famous and strong leader of Siam - who just changed the state to Thailand - it does not need to discuss it. (Or was he more inclined to a Joseph?)
