Court orders ISPs to shut down 8 internet political commentators

BANGKOK: Internet service providers have been served with court orders to close or remove from their computers the accounts of eight individuals deemed to have posted fake news on websites and social networks, Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiwut Thanakhamanusorn said on Wednesday (June 2).

Mr Chaiwut said the internet service providers were invited to the ministry to acknowledge the court orders on Wednesday, reports the Bangkok Post.

The eight accounts to be removed were registered under the names of: 1. Pavin Chachavalpongpan; 2. Andrew MacGregor Marshall; 3. Royalist Marketplace - Talad Luang; 4. Suda Rangkupan; 5. DK Ning; 6. Aum Neko; 7. Kon Thai UK; and, 8. Pixel HELPER.

Under the court order, internet service providers are to remove or block information posted by the eight individuals on websites and social networks, along with their passwords and IP addresses, from their computer systems.

Mr Chaiwut said the ministry had explained to the internet service providers the steps they must follow and the penalties for non-compliance.

He said posters of information on the Internet must be careful not to break the law.

Will it not be a case of whack a mole? Ban them and they will come back, but now people will be interested in what they say…

In any case, aside from these selected eight, there are hundreds of kindred information sources available.
Can't kill 'em all. One spawns a few more and so on....

More often than not, from the Thai authorities corner, they tend to chase down the same old usual foes over and again.
All the while there are still scores of similar content, news and opinion quite available.

Hundreds. Most, short of shutting down the entire net in Thailand, the gov cannot shut shut down.

    The Streisand Effect.

It is no secret that the 'draconian' internet censorship laws in China are a tad overstated, because virtually every middle class chink living in one of the prosperous eastern cities has a VPN, along with an FB account, access to western media propaganda, etc etc. Rice farmers living in a remote part of a remote province are hardly bothered. There are many, many more FB accounts from China than there are people in Australia. Smart people want to know, and if you try to stop them they will just work out how to find out, while becoming even more determined to do so.

So, I would think, would be the case in Thailand. In fact, I know this to be the case (but no names). I certainly keep up with the scribbles from AMM, the ex- Reuters correspondent in Thailand, and even keep up with the rantings of that Queen, Pavin.
