Ukrainian ambassador dies on Koh Lipe, cause unclear

SATUN: Ukrainian ambassador to Thailand Andrii Beshta, 45, died on Koh Lipe island on Sunday morning (May 30), according to the provincial public relations office.

The death of Mr Beshta was reported to Koh Lipe police at about 5:30am, reports the Bangkok Post.

Capt Bidan Saripa of the Koh Lipe Police said Mr Beshta and his 17-year-old son, Ostap, arrived on the island on Friday (May 28) for a vacation. They stayed in the same room at Bunga Resort.

There were no traces of the room being forced open or of the ambassador being attacked, the officer said.

According to his son, Mr Beshta went to bed at 11pm Saturday night. At 4:30am Sunday, Mr Beshta began vomiting, lost consciousness and died shortly afterwards, his son said.

The body of the Ukrainian ambassador was later taken from Koh Lipe island to Satun Hospital. There, Satun Governor Ekarat Leesen was on hand to receive the body.

An arrangement was subsequently made to transport the ambassador’s body to Bangkok for an autopsy.

Although so far there have been no suggestions of foul play, given the longstanding hostility between Russia and Ukraine, speculation is inevitable.

Former Ukraine politician Viktor Yushchenko was disfigured in a 2004 dioxin poisoning linked to Russia. He went on to become president.

In 2018, the British government accused Russia of attempted murder and announced a series of punitive measures after the Novichok poisoning of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia.

Russia is also widely believed to be behind the Novichok poisoning of opposition leader Alexei Navalny on Aug 20 last year.

In 2014, Russia invaded and annexed the Ukrainian territory of Crimea, and this year fears have grown that Russia is planning a new invasion. The enmity between the neighbouring countries has grown into one of the major flashpoints in relations between Russia and the West, with tensions escalating in recent months.

That’s very odd. But then doesn’t Thailand have some history of people suddenly dying? May not be Russia.

    No it isn't.

And furthermore it is one gigantic waste of human resources.

Don't let it be a waste of your human resources.

Nothing happening here folks, please move along.

You said the death was unexplainable. Just because some deaths have been covered up on other islands does not mean this one is unexplainable.

Nor that any of those deaths are "unexplainable."

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Being annexed by the Soviets is "friends" in Hoohoos witless eyes.

So when the tanks rolled into Prague, the Russians were being "friendly".

When the Russians stuck puppet dictators in charge of Poland, Romania, et al, they were being "friendly".

Fucking hell he gets more absurd by the day.

I sometimes wonder when I read his posts just what lives in his head. Klongdick you can kind of understand because of years of Commie brainwashing, but this nutjob has spent most of his life in the UK yet is absolutely away with the fairies.

    What a fruit cake.

News of a dead diplomat in the hotel is any hotel manager's nightmare. That place is going to be picked apart down to every detail.

He got an heart attack, I can't see how that will affect the hotels reputation.

In my neighbourhood I often hear about quite surprising deaths. One example: father with his son arranging for me a water filter. A week later the family was celebrating son's 21 y birthday, morning he was found dead. The family had refused autopsy...

And quite a few deaths of men around 50 yo. Recently, heart attack when driving, ending on a tree...

Many years ago, a Thai friend of mine I used to hang often with, 40 yo, just having a baby, dead by heart attack while sitting in office...

'arry will always have a clue. Luckily, the Ukrainian did not drop from a window, that would be even more clear to him as he has documented many times...

Wondering why one such a recent case - out of window - has escaped to his attention (and so to our knowledge) that happened in Teheran 3 weeks ago. That Swiss lady in high diplomatic position - being in charge of US affairs in Iran (as USA does not have an envoy there) - were just to report about some financial transfers that were questioned in recent weeks.

Senior Swiss diplomat in Iran 'dies in fall from high-rise building'

A senior member of staff at the Swiss embassy in Tehran has died after falling from the high-rise building where she lived, Iranian media report.

An emergency services spokesman told Mehr news agency that the 51-year-old woman was first secretary at the embassy but did not give her name.

Police in the Kamraniyeh area alerted paramedics on Tuesday morning but she had been "dead for a while", he said.

The Swiss foreign ministry confirmed an employee had died in an accident.

"The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and its head Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis are shocked by the tragic death and express their deepest condolences to the family," a spokesperson said.

The ministry added that it was in touch with the family and Iranian authorities.

It gave no further information about the circumstances of the death, citing data protection and privacy reasons.

The Iranian foreign ministry also expressed its condolences, according to the state news agency Irna.

The ministry added that the death was under investigation by the relevant authorities and that the results would be made public soon.

Irna's report cited the emergency services as saying that suicide had already been ruled out.

Switzerland has represented US diplomatic interests in Iran since Washington and Tehran severed relations shortly after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Russia has become a bit more advanced in killing people since you fled the place. Not Much more, but more.
