Special Weapons and Tactics officers secure luxury mansion in Pattaya area, two offic

Two police officers from the Region 2 Police (Chonburi) have sustained serious injuries from gunshot wounds after bringing a search warrant to a luxury mansion occupied by foreign nationals in Huayyai yesterday afternoon around 5:00 P.M. (May 19th).

Region 2 Police arrived at the three-and-a-half-story luxury mansion, with an estimated value of several hundred million baht, with a search warrant to investigate the mansion premises yesterday afternoon just before 5:00 P.M. A foreign national who was inside the mansion at the time of the raid allegedly opened fire at police, firing multiple shots. The reason for the search warrant was not immediately revealed by Region 2 Police.

Two police officers who were named to the press as Captain Panthep Sriboonnak and Senior Sergeant Major Greetha Thipnet who are working for the Region 2 Police have sustained serious injuries from bullet wounds. Captain Panthep was in critical condition with three bullet wounds, to his shoulder, chest, and stomach. Sergeant Major Greetha had been shot in the leg and is expected to fully recover. They were taken to a local hospital for medical assistance.

Following the active shooter incident, a team from the Region 2 Police, Tourist Police, Immigration Officers, the Huayyai Police, and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) were urgently called to the scene to secure the mansion. As seen in the pictures below, dozens of heavily armed officers arrived at the premises at which point the occupants of the mansion reportedly surrendered.

Officers found a firearm abandoned on the floor with broken glass and signs of an altercation on a landing on the third floor of the mansion. Bloodstains were near this area along with forty spent bullet cartridges on the tile.

Region 2 Police mentioned to the local press that many foreigners who are of Chinese and Cambodian nationality that live inside the house were arrested. However, Region 2 police have yet to reveal further details to the local press, although a press conference is expected at a later time to give further clarification to the exact charges against the suspects that resided at this luxury mansion located near a golf course. Multiple luxury vehicles, including a Porsche and a white Rolls-Royce, were also parked at the mansion. All the occupants of the mansion were detained and taken into police custody, including the suspect who reportedly fired shots at Thai police.

A gardener, Mr. Nattiwut Donchaisong, 41, who was mowing the front lawn of the estate when the raid took place, told The Pattaya News that when police first arrived in about three to four cars officers calmly knocked on the front door and almost immediately shots began to be fired from an upper floor. Nattiwut said he dove into shrubbery nearby to take cover until he was able to later escape when backup reinforcements from SWAT arrived at the scene of the incident.

Update: As of 1:00 P.M on May 20th, 2021, Maj. Gen. Suwat Jengyodsuk, Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police addressed the situation. He did not state what the original search warrant was for, however, stated the following:

-8 people were present in the mansion, all were foreigners and were arrested. The Thai gardener working outside was not arrested and not connected with the incident.

-One foreigner is being charged with attempted murder. He was named as Zhang Yang, 35, from St. Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean.

-The police officer in critical condition with three gunshot wounds, Captain Panthep Sriboonnak, has successfully had a second operation and is recovering from surgery but is in a coma.

-All eight suspects will be charged with every offense available under Thai law, including possession of illegal firearms. Their immigration status is also being looked into this afternoon, May 20th.

-The suspects are believed to be connected to online gambling.

-Computers and documents were seized from the suspects and are being examined.

PRC gangstr mafia scum who bought their nationality of convenience from St. Kitts & Nevis in order to bypass any visa requirement.

Frankly, these pricks would have aroused scrutiny from most immigration authorities but here they just breeze through, set up their operations and thrive, usually with the connivance of corrupt authorities.

I mean, for fuck's sake, it's not as if this crew were 'low profile'.

Thai Anti Money Laundering Office investigating mansion that was site of shooting of two police officers in Pattaya by foreign national

Officers from the Anti Money Laundering Office (ALMO) today (May 21st) inspected the luxury mansion that was the site of a shooting of two police officers who part of a team serving a search warrant when they were reportedly opened fire upon by a foreign national holding a passport from St. Kitt and Nevis.

Two police officers from the Region 2 Police (Chonburi) sustained serious injuries from gunshot wounds after bringing a search warrant to a luxury mansion reportedly occupied by foreign nationals in Huayyai around 5:00 P.M. on May 19th.

A team of the Region 2 police, Forensic Police, and officers from the Anti Money Laundering Office (ALMO) inspected properties at the luxury mansion.

Officers found the people who lived at the mansion are the suspect Mr. Zhang Yang, 35, holding a passport from St. Kitts and Nevis, his wife, a foreign national whose nationality was not named, his Thai adopted child, and three household staff members working for Zhang and his wife (1 Thai and 2 Myanmar nationals).

Mr. Zhang is also known by his nickname “Leo”, according to Region 2 police, and reportedly told police his two guns were bought from a Thai. Officers found six luxury cars at the mansion and on adjacent property. Documents viewed by The Pattaya News also appear to show that Mr. Zhang was on a 28 day overstay.

Officers from ALMO are investigating to find the source of all the suspect’s property, reviewing documents and electronic devices seized at the scene. A lawyer for the suspect has previously claimed Mr. Yang is a legitimate real estate agent. Investigating police do not fully believe this claim, pointing to firearms seized at the site as well as riot equipment such as bulletproof vests, riot shields, and bulletproof barricades. The lawyer has claimed the suspect opened fire out of fear as he claims he did not know who the men entering his home were.

TPN Media will provide further updates as they are given. The main suspect remains in custody at this time.

Police defend action in shootout at Pattaya luxury golf course mansion

CHON BURI: Police have given more details of Wednesday’s raid on a luxury house at a golf course in Bang Lamung district during which two policemen were shot by a man using a 9mm automatic pistol.

Deputy national police chief Pol Gen Suchart Theerasawat said police had followed proper procedure and showed a search warrant at the door, but a foreign tenant fled to the upper floors and opened fire at them.

He also used teargas against the officers, Pol Gen Suchart said.

    The man was later arrested.

The accused shooter’s lawyer said on Friday his client ran a real estate firm and was not involved in any illicit business.

Pol Gen Suchart said the suspect was Yang Zhang, 35, a citizen of Saint Kitts and Nevis, earlier identified in media reports as a Chinese national.

St. Kitts and Nevis, a dual-island nation in the Caribbean Sea, has a citizenship-by-investment program touted as "the most successful of its kind globally".

Pol Gen Suchart said other people living at the house, foreigners and a Thai man, were also detained.

All would be investigated, particularly the foreigners, to find out whether they posed a threat to national security under the Immigration Act. If they were in breach of the law they would be deported.

Pol Gen Suchart was speaking after a meeting with police investigators at Huay Yai police station in Chon Buri on Thursday evening.

Police had seized two guns. One had been hidden by a friend of the suspect and the other was a modified 9mm. Other items seized included bullet-proof vests that ordinary citizens were not allowed to possess, said Pol Gen Suchart.

Computers and documents were also seized as evidence and would be examined by officials from the Anti-Money Laundering Office.

The deputy national police said police had followed proper procedures. They produced a search warrant before entering the premises.

The suspect fled to a bedroom on the third floor of the house. When police followed, the suspect opened fire from inside the room, wounding two officers. He also used tear gas, Pol Gen Suchart said.

He said 60-70 spent cartridges were found scattered at the scene, mostly inside the suspect’s bedroom.

Police had initially pressed three counts against Mr Zhang – attempted murder, resisting officers by use of a weapon, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Additional charges may be filed later, Pol Gen Suchar said.

The deputy national police chief inspected the crime-scene house, at Phoenix golf course in tambon Huay Hai of Bang Lamung district, on Thursday following the shooting on Wednesday evening.

The two police officers shot during the raid were Pol Capt Phanthep Sribunnag, chief of Pattaya Police Station’s special operations team, and Pol Snr Sgt Maj Kreetha Thipnate, also of the Pattaya Police.

Pol Capt Phanthep was shot three times - in the shoulder, chest and stomach. Pol Snr Sgt Maj Kreetha was hit in the right leg.

The suspect’s lawyer, Anirut Khongsap, said his client had run a real estate business for two to three years. To his knowledge, his client was not involved in drugs or any other illicit business.

He said news coverage of the incident suggested it was very violent, and he wondered whether police had followed proper procedures and exactly what had sparked the shooting.

There might have been miscommunication and misunderstanding.

He said the house was purchased and operated like a firm. His client may have become fearful when strangers entered the house. The officers were wearing plain clothes.

He understood that the gun his client possessed was registered.

He had not been able to speak to his client yet but had spoken to the other people in the house at the time. They were all shocked by the events, he said.

A highly-placed source said later that during questioning the suspect confessed to shooting, but he claimed he did not know they were police officers. He thought they might be people trying to attack or abduct him for ransom.

Indeed, amazing how a 35 year old Chinese national who bought a passport of convenience should operate a real estate business of only three years and occupies a property worth over 100 million baht bought through his company in which are found handguns and assorted bullet-proof protection ware that are of course typical items Pattaya realtors acquire in pursuit of their profession here in the LoS.

Clearly, this has been all a tragic misunderstanding through miscommunication and will no doubt be resolved through a meaningful debate benefiting all parties to mutual satisfaction.

Suspect in luxury mansion shooting of two Thai police remains in custody at prison, six other associated foreigners visas canceled

The main suspect in a luxury mansion shooting in Pattaya last week where two police officers who were part of a team serving a search warrant were shot remains in custody at a prison in Banglamung. Meanwhile, the visas of six other foreigners residing or associated with the mansion have been canceled according to Region 2 Police officers.

The prime suspect Mr. Zhang Yang, 35, who holds a passport from the Caribbean nation of St. Kitts and Nevis which is a popular citizenship by investment nation, and is also known by his nickname “Leo”, is now in custody at the Nong Plalai Prison in Banglamung according to corrections officials at the prison and Region 2 police officers.

Visas of other six foreigners, who were identified as two Myanmar nationals and four Chinese nationals who lived at the mansion have been canceled, according to Region 2 police. All six are set to be deported once the investigation around the current incident is completed and remained at the Banglamung police station as of press time. The exact reason for the cancelation of their visas was not stated by relevant law enforcement officials to The Pattaya News or associated local press.

The photos in this article show the suspect, Zhang, taken to the luxury mansion where the event took place for a re-enactment of the event, part of standard policy for major crimes in Thailand.

Captain Panthep Sriboonnak of the Region 2 police, who had sustained serious injuries from three gunshot wounds after reportedly being fired upon by Zhang and had two surgeries is still in critical condition, reportedly in a coma at a Chonburi area hospital.

The overall case remains under investigation and Bangkok-based transnational crime units are reportedly involved in the situation.

"The lawyer has claimed the suspect opened fire out of fear as he claims he did not know who the men entering his home were. " Completely understandable. There is no guarantee someone dressed as a cop isn't a hitman from a competing criminal organisation. Shot first and ask questions later.

It's perhaps not surprising a significant proportion of TD members suffer from arrested development and actually do rationalise on the basis of their consumption of pap television and clichéd Hollywood scripts.

" Who's that at the door, Kwok?"
" They say they are police, Chang"
" How do we know......don't let them in.........ohmigod..........fuckit.........I know, I'll do what I always do when unfamiliar people claiming to be policemen come to my house, I'll fire 70 rounds and kill them"

    As you fucking do.

He's a gangster alright and the stupid fuck no doubt stoked on fuck knows what dope panicked and fired away because he's a fucking idiot, or thought he was Tony Montana.

Chinese media, Thai police argue over handling of mansion raid in Pattaya

Controversy is swirling around the police raid on the Pattaya luxury mansion last week where a Chinese National shot 2 police officers, as the man and Chinese media claim that the raid was “executed poorly”.

Senior Thai police officers claim the raid was carried out appropriately, while the Chinese man claims he panicked after being approached by suspicious men who were not clearly identified as police officers.

The Chinese media has claimed that proper procedures were not followed and a search warrant was not obtained in advance. Video footage has been circling online showing a group of plain-clothes men coming through the rear of the property, where the owner was relaxing by the pool before fleeing to lock himself in his home.

From the upstairs bedroom, he shot more than 60 rounds from a 9mm automatic pistol licensed to his Thai girlfriend. He also released tear gas on the storming police officers, and investigations later revealed that another Chinese man in the house had a concealed gun. 2 police officers were critically injured, one shot in the stomach and 1 shot in the leg, though the most recent information is that both will recover from being shot.

The deputy spokesman for the Royal Thai police says that the court issued a search warrant after reviewing the evidence from a special operations squad, so police would have prior knowledge of who might be inside and what to expect during a raid. He argues that raid procedure was followed with uniformed police officers and 4 police cars at the front of the property while police entered from the rear to stop anyone from fleeing.

The shooter in custody, a Chinese man known as Leo carrying a passport for investment haven Saint Kitts and Nevis, claims that he fired on the intruders for fear of being kidnapped or harmed with no knowledge that the people storming his property were police.

The police contradict his statement and argue that all officers had proper ID displayed during the raid and had already identified themselves to a gardener when they entered the property.

While Leo’s lawyer maintains that the search was executed without a warrant and run improperly, police maintain they had gone through proper procedures while investigating money laundering and illegal online gambling operations believed to be going on in the luxury mansion.

His lawyer claims that Leo has no involvement with any illegal business or organised crime, and is merely a businessman who made money in gold, property, Bitcoin, and is in Thailand to develop a luxury real estate market. Police argue that bulletproof vests found during the raid and the use of teargas imply more nefarious activities.

Despite conflicting stories, one failure of procedure is that no interpreter was present during the raid, a requirement for any search warrant on a foreign national as many cannot speak or read Thai, as was the case with this Chinese man.

The man has expressed remorse for shooting at police during the raid but argues that he was defending himself as, without any knowledge who the raiders were and what they were doing there, he genuinely believed that he was about to be the victim of a kidnapping. He cited a recent story of a Chinese couple that was abducted just last year, sealed in suitcases, and thrown into a river to drown.

Leo has expressed frustration at the poor conditions he was held in, with no clothes or access to bathing, and with his visa being revoked. Police say he’s being held not only on the original suspicions of money laundering and illegal online gambling, but for attempted murder, causing bodily harm to police, and the illegal use of a firearm.

Chinese media continuesto advocate on his behalf painting a negative picture of the Thai police’s handling of the raid.

There must be CCTV on or around the property, it should show what happened.

60 rounds sounds a tad high number for self defense against a home invasion.
