    Trio nabbed over Bangkok kidnapping

THAILAND: Two Americans and a Thai have been arrested by Crime Suppression Division (CSD) police over their alleged role in the kidnapping of a Taiwanese businessman over a business conflict.

Their arrest was revealed by deputy commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) Pol Maj Gen Jiraphop Phuridet on Saturday night (May 15), at a press briefing also attended by CSD commander Pol Maj Gen Suwat Saengnoom among other senior officers.

The Americans were identified as Jeremy Hughes Manchester, 41, and Louis William Ziskin, 52, while the Thai national was identified as Ekbodin Prasitnarit. The trio faces charges which include illegal assembly, abduction, attempted murder, and extortion.

According to Pol Maj Gen Jiraphop, the conflict began late last year, when Mr Ziskin appointed Collection Company Limited - run by a woman he identified only as “Mrs Emily” - to negotiate with the Paddy The Room Trading Company Limited for the purchase of nitrile gloves.

A business conflict ensued between the two sides, causing Mr Ziskin to suffer more than B93 million in damages, Pol Maj Gen Jiraphop said, without giving details about the dispute.

Mr Ziskin hired Michael Greenberg, an Israeli man who runs a private detective service in Thailand, to retrieve the money. Mr Greenberg and his Thai and foreign collaborators allegedly planned the abduction.

Pol Maj Gen Jiraphop said they contacted Wen Yu Chung, 60, a Taiwanese representative of the Collection Company in Thailand, under the pretext of wanting to buy rubber gloves from the Paddy The Room Trading Company. They made a time to meet at L’Oliva, a restaurant in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Soi 36, on March 28.

As Mr Chung was waiting at the restaurant, the deputy commissioner said, Mr Greenberg and friends arrived, grabbed him and put him in handcuffs. They took him from the restaurant to a room at NT Place about 200 metres away on Soi Sukhumvit 36, where several people were waiting.

The abductors assaulted Mr Chung and used his telephone to call Mrs Emily to demand US$2mn (about B62.7mn) from her.

They also called his relatives, demanding another $1 million in return for Mr Chung’s safe release.

Neither Mrs Emily nor the relatives yielded to the demand, but instead contacted police.

Their ransom demands rebuffed, the abductors took Mr Chung to Nadimos restaurant in Sukhumvit Soi 24 to talk to Mr Ziskin.

Eventually, Mr Chung was released and went to a hospital for treatment. He later went to Thong Lor police station to file a complaint against those who conspired to hold him for ransom.

Following a police investigation, arrest warrants were issued for eight people - seven foreigners and a Thai national.

Police arrested Mr Manchester, Mr Ziskin and Mr Ekbodin in Bangkok, Pol Maj Gen Jiraphop said.

All three denied the charges. They were handed over to Thong Lor police for further legal proceedings.

    Louis William Ziskin, 52

Possibly the same guy: businessman, same name, same age, same nationality - Louis Ziskin, 52, American.

The Thaiger quotes the Daily News as saying a former cop was involved:

Daily News reports that a “lieutenant colonel” ranked Thai policeman was also captured on the CCTV supervising the events as they happened inside the restaurant. He is reported as being a former traffic policeman.

No ransom paid and 2 free dinners out of it.

Looks like Mr. Chung is now at least another 1k baht up (unless he ordered drinks with his meal, so could be more) on the 93 million that he screwed them for.

    Clever man.

I think there is some sort of aberration in the space-time continuum affecting some westerners entering Thai territory in which they lose all sense of rational reasoning and become hopelessly deluded in their thinking. The locals of course are born to it and have learnt how to survive albeit paying a heavy price in cognitive development whereby their logic is impenetrable to anyone except themselves. But with foreigners the phenomenon is all too apparent. In their own countries they would never contemplate such utter stupidity but here .........

Yet again, you miss the point. Are you on some sort of therapy regime?

It's relatively rare that foreigners thwarted in business commission such a crime in a foreign country in cahoots with local law enforcement personnel and execute the plan in such a fucking obviously deranged and half-arsed manner. But here it is not uncommon.

The 'Thainess' of it is of course apparent to we residents who are seized of a perspicacity seemingly passing you by.

    Out on bail.

Former U.S. Marine arrested in Thailand over multimillion dollar kidnap ransom plot

A former U.S. Marine was arrested in Thailand over an alleged $3 million dollar kidnap for a ransom revenge plot.

Louis William Ziskin, 52, with the help of three other accomplices allegedly nabbed Taiwanese businessman Wen Yu Chung, 60, in broad daylight at a restaurant in Bangkok on March 28.

They were allegedly angry over a failed business deal in which Chung had sold them rubber gloves for 93 million baht ($2.95 million) which turned out to be poor quality.

Louis, together with fellow American Jeremy Hughes Manchester, 41, Thai cop Kritsnaporn Thapthawee, 59, and another Thai man Prasit Narit, 28, allegedly demanded money from Chung before he could be freed.

However, the businessman’s family refused to pay the vast three million dollar ransom and contacted local authorities for help. This allegedly pressured the group and released the Taiwanese at a hospital before they were arrested on May 15.

Police Lieutenant General Jiraphop Phuridet said Louis and his alleged accomplices paid 300,000 baht ($9,526) in bail but they will have to wear electronic monitoring bracelets to prevent them from fleeing the country.

He said: "Their lawyers successfully applied for bail. They should wear the bracelets at all times. They were also barred from leaving Thailand. Chung’s boss who was also his mother didn’t want to follow their demands and contacted us to help them with the situation.

"The abductors then left him at a hospital for medical treatment as he was physically assaulted. The Taiwanese later reported the situation to us. He identified eight people but we arrested four of them so far. The others are still in hiding."

The group allegedly bought nitrile gloves for industrial use from Chung in December 2020 but lost 93 million baht ($2.95 million) after the businessman refused to provide replacements. They then set about hatching a revenge plot to recoup some of their losses.

An Israeli detective identified as Michael Greenberg hired by Louis allegedly planned the abduction but he was not arrested and police are reportedly still searching for him.

The group was charged with racketeering, extortion, abduction for ransom, among others which they denied.

There is so many fuckwits getting into the import/export business. Because there is so many fuckwits who tell you how easy it is and how you can get rich doing it.

This is the typical value trap that some dunderhead like Louis Foreskin will find himself in. Ah some shoddy Chinese outfit is selling gloves for half the price here. So I'll buy a million worth of them and double my money. Easy peasy.

How easy is it now fuckwit ? Now you just dug your hole even deeper.

Like anything today in this hot money economy , there is a handful of lucky fuckwits at the top who did get rich flipping shit. And they make it look easy. But it wasn't about business acumen. They just took that risk of buying shit sight unseen in big quantities and it happened to be legit.

You might as well just buy lottery tickets with your money. The chances are the same.
