Buriram makes Covid vaccines compulsory for high-risk groups

Buriram ordered people in high-risk groups to take coronavirus vaccine or face fine and jail time, the province announced this week.

The official order was annouced Thursday night.

The governor of each province has the authority to introduce Covid-prevention and restriction measures as they deem appropriate, according to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), formed under the power of the state-of-emergency decree.

Buriram Governor Tatchakorn Hatthathayakulorder’s order states that every citizen over the age of 18 who lives and works in the province must fill an offline or online self-evaluation form and hand it in to the local health authority.

The local authority will then determine whether the person is considered to be at risk of Covid-19 infection.

If the person as considered to be at risk, they will have to be vaccinated on the date and time that the authority designates.

Refusal to fill the self-evaluation form can incur a fine of no more than 10,000 baht or jail for no more than one month.

A violator who refuses to be vaccinated could face a fine of no more than 40,000 baht or jail for no more than two years.

Simply nasty little savages with no respect or regard for anything other than their own arrogance. Even in this fucked up little tinpot country what law confers a glorified headman the right to forcibly medicate someone against their will.

Yep but sometimes the best option in Baan Nok provinces like Buriram. Expect more of the same in other Isaan provinces.

So, you are content to be force-fed a vaccine that might kill you with a blood clot, has been banned by Denmark and will be discontinued by the EU after Sept/Oct 2021 or by a vaccine that no member of the Thai elite was prepared to accept?

One American male makes his, not their. But you have always painted with a very wide brush.

Just what the fuck are you babbling on about, you silly old frazzled seppo. My reference was in the plural, provoked by a post of another. If I had referred specifically to him I would have used the singular male possessive. But, as a general point, it is quite acceptable to refer to an individual as 'their' when the gender is unspecified.

I imagine it's nothing more than another paper tiger...

...although the rich and powerful will surely top the high risk groups.

We have seen this type of behaviour before in other countries.

As our 'local' source, waiting to read Prag's response to all this. Incidentally, he's not been around for a month now. Trust he's OK.

^ I too live up here and since the Thursday night notification nothing has changed in our village.
I have had 3 visits prior to this from the local health volunteers taking my information for vaccination but to date I have not been given any appointment time.
I have been told though that it will be next month - we'll see.
A couple of villages over there was a small outbreak of Covid. I had heard that it had been locked down but don't know the situation today.
As this outbreak became news 'checkpoints' were set up on the exit to our village and the neighbouring one, manned by locals to take temperatures of those entering/exiting.
My wife was stopped on one trip out of the village. On another wew were not
Yesterday we had very heavy rain in the pm and the checkpoints were unmanned.
I have also heard that a walk-in vaccination point will be set up in the Chang Arena in Buriram city.
I will be there this coming week to see immigration so will see what is.
Previously it has been a centre for quarantine and a covid testing site.

In a sentence the situation changes almost every day

Current covid vaccines don't prevent people from catching and spreading the disease, they however alleviate the seriousness of the cases which could be required for people deemed "at risk" (older people, and/or people with health issues such as overweight, diabetes, kidneys and heart diseases).

If the authorities want the vaccine to be mandatory, they have to take responsibility in case of side effects to properly treat and compensate people who endure them. Not sure the local bodies are able (nor willing) to do this.

^ I am sure I read something a week or so ago that the government would pay compensation to families should the side effects be serious. Not sure how official it was.

I have had a quick look and can find anything.

Malaysia has set up such a fund
    https://www.bangkokpost.com/world/20...9-vaccinations

Perhaps it was this I was thinking of.

^^ I read about private insurance against catching covid, but that has been rescinded as apparently there was too many claims. Not sure of that but I think the policies has been modified to lower compensation tremendously (think 10k instead of 100k) if you catch the covid and grant compensation in case of vaccines' side effects but don't know the details on that.

Private insurances aren't to be involved if the vaccine has been turned mandatory by authorities.
