British expat found dead in Pattaya house with pet dogs protecting his body

A British expat was found dead inside a house in Pattaya tonight with his two dogs protectively beside him.

The Nongprue Police was notified from Ms. Wanpen Supanthong, 56, who lives next door, at 5:00 P.M. today, May 13th, of the incident at a house in Soi Marb Yailia 22.

Police, rescue workers, and The Pattaya News arrived at the house and found the door and gate was locked with signs of a foul smell nearby . Rescue workers were allowed by police to unlock the door after repeated attempts to contact any occupants inside went reportedly unanswered except for barking dogs.

They found the body of a 74-year-old British man (The Pattaya News is withholding his name pending embassy and family notification.) inside the house lying deceased on the floor.

The home and area where the man was found was described by first responders as cluttered and that the dogs had caused a mess adding to the difficulty of the situation. Two dogs were found protecting the body of the man and barking at first responders.

Police told local media they found no sign of struggle on the man’s body or inside the house. Police believe that the man died about two to three days before his body was found. The dogs were safely brought away from the man’s body although rescue workers did not immediately state to the local media what would happen to the animals.

Ms. Wanpen told Pattaya police, “I haven’t seen him for about three days and he normally sat outside every day playing with his dogs. I noticed his absence and could hear the animals barking inside the home but not being let out. I also noticed a bad smell coming from the house and I decided to call Pattaya police.”

“I knew that he had just come back from Bangkok with a headache a few days before and I did not see him since that brief conversation and greeting.” Wanpen stated.

Rescue workers carefully moved his body to a hospital. Police are continuing their investigation to find the cause of death and an autopsy is expected to be performed. Police are working on contacting the man’s family members and embassy.

The Pattaya News notes that full PPE is currently being used for all unexplained deaths as a Covid-19 precaution.

Morgue might be more appropriate, or was it just a poor translation?

Or poor reporting. You are right, hospitals don't accept dead bodies.

Who declares someone dead for a death certificate in Thailand? Surely the rescue workers can’t do that.

^^ and ^^^ Yes. But most morgues are in hospitals. This is a place where an autopsy will most likely be conducted to determine cause of death (to rule out possible foul play).

When the gf's mother passed, she called me in the morning. I travelled there arriving early afternoon. Mum was already in a box. I asked what the doctor said and I got a village response: She is dead, everyone knows she is dead. It seems no doctor was required. The gf just went to the Tessaban and told them mum was dead.
Frankly, it has crossed my mind that maybe I should worry about this.

^ Same last year when my wife's mother died. Direct from her home to temple.

It made me wonder about the Covid figures... from what I can see pretty well no-one gets tested for cause of death.

Does a body begin to smell after only three days?

I trust we will hear back regarding the fate of the dogs.

Such loyal animals should not be put down.

Well it's not really that uncommon for the 'corpse' to sober up and walk home judging from the news stories.

Well, it can't be Pattaya Plies.

Nobody would have been alarmed by a disgusting smell emanating from anywhere near his kitchen.

I used to work in the damaged car auctions, we would receive some fatal accident cars directly from the scene depending on the insurance company assessor. No body in the car obviously, but bits and pieces left over from when the fire brigade hosed it out,(teeth, skin, fat, etc) and yes, 1 day the car stunk inside and maggots swarming after about 3 days just from the blood under the carpet.
I cleaned one once by flipping it onto the roof with the forklift and powerwashing it while upside down with the doors all opened, The maggots where crawling back to the car from the storm water drain, was a sight to see when i turned the flow off.
The one thing i can take as a positive from this article is that the guy loved his dogs and they sat by him after he died, and tried to protect him?

I have never owned a dog so I will take your word for that.

There was an article posted here a couple of weeks a go about a pitbull attach in which the local people ( I guess typical Thais?) immediately forgave the dog for literally tearing his owners throat out.( The karma "thing") I note that Thai is continually glorifying the work of pets. Have you noticed any of that?

I tend to overreact which earns me many reds. Oh. And thanks for the one you directed my way.

You can't generalise and I will never understand this place. Maybe Isaan is more brutal than other parts... I've known dogs to be poisoned for doing nothing more than walking across a newly planted tarrow field. And if a dog takes a chicken... beaten to death with a stick.

And yet a dangerous dog that kills it owner... is forgiven
