Sriracha Tiger Zoo shuts its doors permanently

Sriracha Tiger Zoo in Chonburi province posted on its Facebook page that it was closing down permanently from Friday, 24 years since it opened.

The management will hold a meeting with employees next Monday to explain the reasons for going out of business as well as discuss other issues, said Wasan Temsiriphong, the zoo’s managing director.

Wasan added that the main reason behind the zoo’s closing was the current economic situation and the third wave of Covid-19 that had affected the zoo’s revenue.

Located in Nong Kham subdistrict, it opened its doors on April 23, 1997. The 250-rai tiger zoo became famous as the largest facility in the world that bred and raised Bengal tigers. The zoo also featured talent shows of many animals besides tigers, such as crocodiles, elephants and pigs. There were also exhibition zones for camels, spotted deer, rabbits and more.

^ Do you think this was a good outfit in the first place BS, name one institution in Thailand you'd advocate to manage any endangered species? If keeping them alive for profit and ogling is the aim then they work, otherwise i can think of nowhere in the Kingdom that serves any purpose apart from lining the pockets of the scum that run them.

So sad that the tigers will have to resort to the dark web for their sedatives.

Please F right off with that whinging ideology. People like you and that ideology are making life excruciatingly boring. Yeah. Shut down all the zoo's because muh animal rights. You will find a reason to see how every shutdown of any human endeavor is a good thing. Shut down all air travel. Just shut down everything. Lets just end the human race.

Let's all become vegans too. Are you a fucking vegan ? Why not ?

One day in our lifetime , the whinge ideology will be soundly defeated. And all of you whingers will be whinging to the clouds. And nobody will give a f.

I don't like zoos as i see them as mans failure to look after the environment, hence my comment. Zoos that are there purely to satisfy a profit motive rather than some of the more altruistic ones which try to fight the losing cause of conservation i cannot abide. I can only imagine zoos with a profit motive taking in your species for freak show purposes.

the thais treat their animals as they do their falangs.

as spectator sports to gawp at, take advantage of and fill their pockets with.

thai zoos, snake and crocodile shows, elephant corrals are no more than glorified torture chambers where dumb tourists can feed their addiction for instagram selfies and are owned and run by thais who know no better.

thank god they are going bankrupt and hopefully some genuine animal charities will come forward to take care of the animals.

I can only imagine the sad state those Tigers are in now as well as all the other animals they had.

I went there about 10 years ago and many of the Tigers looked drugged and hungry then. You could see they weren't well looked after and didn't have enough to eat.

And that's when it was packed full of busses.

Won't these charities keep the animals in the same conditions as a zoo?

This same issue came up with respect to the tiger temple not so long ago. I still feel that well-run zoos have a part to play in preserving vulnerable species.
Poorly run tiger farms are appalling ideas. Still, I don't think that altruism alone will save the tiger. Some kind of commercialised tiger tourism is probably part of the solution.

Uh oh, seems it is not closed..

Sri Racha Tiger Zoo to remain, despite reports to the contrary

The owner of Sriracha Tiger Zoo on Sunday confirmed the zoo will remain open, after reports circulated over the weekend that it had closed permanently.

Sumeth Panyasakhon, the managing director of the Sriracha Crocodile Farm Co, which operated the zoo, said it had been forced to close for 14 days in order to comply with preventative measures issued by Chonburi’s Communicable Disease Control Committee.

However, he said that reports on Facebook the zoo had closed for good were not true, Kapook reported.

He said the Sriracha Crocodile Farm Co, operates the zoo on behalf of the zoo’s owner and would continue to do so.

Sumeth said he has a plan to make the zoo operationally viable.

Sumeth said that the animals at the zoo are still being taken good care of.

The Sriracha Tiger Zoo opened in 1997 and was once thought to be the largest facility in the world to breed and raise Bengal tigers. The zoo also host shows which featured performances from tigers, elephants and crocodiles,

    Cool

This place is a great "open zoo" - going round in a golf buggy is a great day out - the apes you see close to he start of the trip are cleverly out of reach but there's no cage.

Feeding the rhinos, flamingos and giraffes is fun and overall the animals seem well taken care of.

Go to the wild and see how glorious it is there.

^^^ I have never said this before, but I will say it now.

I thought you were playing to the crowd about how backward you were.

Now, I realise that you are the most smooth-brained idiot I have ever come across.

Words cannot explain how thick I think you really are. Maybe a trip to the hospital to count how many chromosomes are missing would be a start.

What a weird young man you are.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.
