Second motorbike driver dies after falling into road construction pit

A motorbike driver has died, the second person in less than two weeks, after he drove his motorbike into a large and reportedly unmarked road construction pit in Ban Bueng over the past weekend.

The Klong Giw Police was notified of the accident on Saturday (April 17th) on Road Number 331 going from Sattahip to Chacherngsao.

They and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find the body of Mr. Jetsada Salee, 25, inside the pit which is 6 meters wide, 1.5 meters deep and 10 meters long. The pit did not appear to have warning lights or barriers despite a similar accident just under two weeks prior.

Ban Bueng law enforcement found the damaged motorbike of the driver’s lying nearby in the partially submerged construction pit. Police believed that the man died at least six hours before his body was recovered.

His mother, Mrs. Somphon Meepan, 54, told The Pattaya News, “My son usually drove to work in Rayong daily from Ban Bueng. He was the main person in our family who earned a living to support us.”

“There must be someone who should be responsible, or pay for my son’s death and funeral costs.” She added.

On April 6th another driver died while his passenger had sustained serious injuries after they drove their motorbike into the same large road construction pit in Ban Bueng. Authorities said they would look into the incident but the pit remained.

Why aren't any of these people held responsible.
    I don't get it.

Sometimes one truly despairs at the degree of poster naivety and obtuseness exhibited on this site.

This country has a society that is denoted by its stupidity, ignorance and reckless incompetence, all factors that indicate there may well be a systemic dysfunction at an organic level within their brains. This impairment to their cognitive ability is so endemic at almost every level one could be forgiven for concluding they are not entirely in synch with mainstream evolutionary development marking out homo sapiens.

To leave a large hole in a public carriageway unguarded and without warning signs, day or night, illuminated or otherwise, is quite a normal activity for these creatures. That they failed to learn from experience is simply more evidence confirming my thesis they are not fully formed humans. Their lack of initiative and cognitive dysfunction is in truth the norm.

Of course, in a civilised society with a functioning rule of law enforced by competent officials the contractors responsible for the work would be arrested on a charge of criminal negligence and manslaughter.

They probably haven't got such an offence within their canon and also the victims are not "important" people.

That's a bit harsh SA. They quite often put a leafy twig just in front of the hazard, leaving more than enough distance to still not be able to stop in time.

It is a fair question. The gf works in local government preparing contracts, many of which are for roads. She was quite shocked by this story, she says the contracts have safety clauses that the builder must comply with and that an engineer must oversee. Her view is that both the builder and the engineer should have been arrested after the first incident.

Probably mis-translated, and they just said they would look into the pit.
