What would you have done differently? Give the dog the stink eye? growl at him? form your hands in the sign of a cross and hiss at him

Having it put down for killing your husband would be the most obvious choice.

A summary execution would have been most appropriate imo.

I find it very wrong when a dog attack and kill a human.

She could not be happier sitting in my lap. She would not hurt a fly in our family. I feel sorry for anyone that would try to hurt us though.
I don't know what happened in this story, it could be that the owner was perfectly good, and something extraordinary happen. or maybe , and even , unintentionally , thinking he was doing the right thing, mistreated the animal.
My only experience with Pitbulls is Raley so I cant generalize. But Raley is the most gentle dog I ever met.

The only rule I have when handling my killer dog is never touch his food when he is eating and never bend down to his head level when handling him.

Always tower above him and never show fear.

It is certainly wrong when anyone kills anyone else be it human , dog, or any other species . but I an sure that some times it is accidental, or justified, in fact there is a legal term for it, Justifiable homicide
Some have immediately without thought said. "Summary execution" yet they would be singing a different tune if they killed someone accidently or for justifiable reasons and there was a call for their skin. .
The truth of the mater is that none of us really knows the why this dog did what it did, It could be that there is something wrong with the dog, in which case the dog needs to be put down, or it could be that the dog was either intentional or unintentionally mistreated and reacted in accordance with its nature, in which case it will be wrong to kill it.
And that's the last thing I am going to say on the subject, because if what I just said above can not be understood there is nothing more I can say that will be.
