A driver died while his passenger had sustained serious injuries after they drove their motorbike into a large road construction pit in Ban Bueng yesterday morning.
The Klong Giw Police was notified of the accident yesterday morning (April 6th) near road number 331 in Bab Marb Kla.
Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the large construction pit that was also quite deep on the road.
In the pit, they found the body of Mr. Kritsana Chaiyasarn, 23. Mr. Baanwithit Sawatnatee, 23, had sustained serious injuries and was about four meters from Kritsana. Their damaged motorbike was found nearby.
Mr. Chaiwit Janbua, 24, a friend of the two men, told associated Thai media, “We were heading home after work from a factory. They were on another motorbike while I was driving my own motorbike.”
“I saw the rough road surface before I slowed down my motorbike. I shouted out to tell my friends but it was too late.”
“There were no warning signs, lights, or anything else to tell road users that the road was being closed and under construction.” Chaiwit stated.
The pit covered nearly the entire road and contained multiple cement pillars. It is unclear exactly what sort of work was taking place and transportation officials from the area have yet to comment on the tragic accident.
