I was asking since when has CM been "the cheapest part of a cheap country", a comment you made in a thread about CM and in reference to another person's post about CM, which you then had to subsequently revise from "country" to "the six places farang commonly congregate" because it was quite obviously not correct.

    You're welcome.

Going from "the cheapest part of a cheap country" to six specific places within said country is indeed revising, not clarifying.

Clarifying would be more along the lines of 'the cheapest part of certain places within the country' and then later specifying those places.

I hope that clarification is now clear to you.

You just haven't understood the sentence you quoted because your English is shit.

Or maybe you just don't understand how 'live' pollution indexes work.

Either way, the error is yours.

Either way, Chiang Mail is a great place to retire, don't you agree?

^ I would think many that thought that way are regretting it or left already.

In the big picture, the burning each year is not an ideal situation for folks who live, work, and retired there (Thai or westerners). It is manageable however as it is not a year round issue. I live 80km south of CM on the other side of the mountains so I do not contend with it much.

As for Wakeys general comments, CM is not a cheap place to live. In fact I suspect COL is quite high as they cater to a much larger foreigner population coupled with it being a high volume tourist destination (Covid era excluded).

That said, being this is an annual air pollution situation with no end in sight, if people are considering retiring there or relocating to CM it should be one of the items on the checklist to heavily consider. I know I avoid going to CM during this 2 to 3 month window.

As long as I can get irate at other people's decision to live there, I'm happy.

For Thais perhaps, not for farangs. A farang living there unless insane will need a car in order to visit and obtain the types of products and services sane farangs require.

    Sums it up

All I need is a pool to lounge by as I write my novels.

Unlike the falangs living in other places...

(BTW, how many Thais do you know in your area (in case you live in Thailand) who do not have a vehicle?)

^ Someone living in Chiang Mai doesn't need a car to visit a supermarket, mall, western restaurant, hospital, airport, nightlife etc.

I doubt many people living in CM would agree with that.

Smeg, why do you do this? You hate Thailand and expats who live here, and you hate TD. Yet you continue to be infatuated with expat life in Thailand, and in particular TD. When you get a sock that works you stop posting on your "Anti Thailand and TD" platform, Thailand Chatter, and become absorbed in TD. Why is that?

    Fair enough. I'll try again.

One USD buys the same number of baht today as it did on 11 March 2011.

Then I stand corrected. I had no USD investments 10 years ago. When I first diversified into USD investments about 6 years ago the Baht was much lower, the same against the GBP. For me, the high Baht has been a significant factor on my retirement.
