To dismiss them as merely stupid is perhaps a little too simplistic given their lack of foresight is evidenced in pretty much every endeavour on which they may chance to embark.
Remember the decision to seal Pattaya last year with strategically sited roadblocks in order to test those entering the city environs for COVID? Inside two hours the traffic jams extended as far back as the eye could see effectively jamming the entire infrastructure connecting the city with Chonburi and Rayong. It was abandoned after one day.
Remember the decision last year to force all foreign tourists to register for permission to remain because there were no flights out to their home countries? At one stage the queues extended to over 12 hours in the hot sun as the tens of thousands were herded cattle like into corrals before they realised it was beyond stupidity, unmanageable and inhumane, and simply deemed extensions like every other country.
And then this year in Chonburi they decided that a permit to leave the chanwat was required and all who wished to apply must first attend the relevant amphur to submit in writing their reasons for doing so. The first day the lines extended into such long days that for many their plans became utterly redundant. The next day they expand ed the licensing authorities to include the police and employers.
The power cable laid through a city pedestrian bridge and the tree bifurcating a single carriageway upcountry of course are the legendary examples of their foolishness but it really is quite amazing just how dim they can be.
