Canadian expat and 3-year-old son suffer minor injuries in Pattaya area motorbike

A Canadian expat and his 3-year-old son have sustained mostly minor injuries after a motorbike accident in Banglamung yesterday morning (February 27th).

Emergency responders were notified of the accident at 9:30 A.M. on Phon Prapa Nimit Road. (Soi Golf course) in the Nongprue sub-district yesterday morning, February 27th, 2021.

Rescue staff and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene of the accident to find a Canadian expat identified as Mr. John L., 65, and a three-year-old Canadian boy, his son. Nearby, rescue staff found John’s damaged red motorbike.

Both the ex-pat and his son sustained mostly minor injuries, however, they agreed to be taken to a nearby hospital for a check-up following the accident.

Mr. Kanitsapong Hansa, 19, a Canadian national who is Mr. John’s elder son, told The Pattaya News, “My father took my younger brother on his motorbike to run an errand.”

“My dad lost control and crashed into a broken power pole on the side of the road. He might have fainted as he has some personal health problems.” Kanitsapong concluded.

John did not speak directly with the press and he and his son are expected to make a full recovery following the harrowing accident.

The number of 4-member helmetless farang families I've seen riding a motorbike on an island is scary. Why do these idiots go native?

How on earth did this make the papers? I have personally witnessed dead bodies on the road in Thailand after accidents- but never anything mentioned about it in the press.

I don't drive motor cycles here, due mainly to the road conditions, let alone risking the life of a minor when doing so.

If I also had medical conditions which could affect my ability to control a motor bike I would avoid doing so.

The man is a fool and should lose his license as he clearly is a danger to others not only himself.

Concur. I absolutely cringe seeing kids on motorbikes here daily and it's not uncommon to see 2 or 3 of them without a helmet or protective clothing between them just waiting to become another statistic. The reasons for this are well known, but there's no reason that could justify an elderly Foreigner doing it too.

WTF. You never tell anyone if you are susceptible to fainting. Otherwise you'll get your driver's license taken away. Oh hey I just fainted. Not my fault

It's not about Thai's doing it you gormless, unkempt, duck-herding whippet fucker. It's about a Foreigner going native and thinking it's ok for him and his child to do the same. Do you have comprehension issues or are simply fuckng retarded?

Few years back when I worked in LaemChabang 2 school kids riding a scooter got taken out by a truck right in front of me, I swerved to miss the carnage.

At work I washed bits of them off my car.

^It would be almost impossible for any of us that've spent some time here to have not seen road toll deaths unfortunately. Couldn't count them all myself and don't really want to, but one that stands out was an Arab on what I assume was a rented Superbike t-boning a bus at full noise in 2nd gear outside Royal Garden. Heard him take off, turned to see what sort of bike it was, saw the bus pulling out, and that was that.

Like those 2 welsh lads on a litre bike that scattered their bodies down 2nd road when they took out a power pole... never forget watching the news vid of the rescue guys picking up chunks of meat and bone and putting it into plastic 7/11 bags.

Saw a couple of dead peeps (anotherbike accident) back home in Aus when I was there for 2018.... was like "meh".... whilst everyone else at the scene was crying and all emotional and shit.

See enough dead bodies it becomes normal after a while.

In fairness, SA may have seen the words "Canadian expat" in the title and automatically assumed it was a Thai with a Canadian passport.

Nah, he's as thick as shit innit.

True That. I was out in Pattaya with some colleagues in the Van, a westerner guy blew buy us wearing a tank top and shorts on a what appeared to be an R6. About 4 lights later we were directed to the left and we went by pieces of that guy and his moto spread everywhere. We passed on dinner and just went a drank after seeing that.

    Just another Douche nozzel Stat.

I had the misfortune to pull up at some lights in Phuket Town behind a lorry, door open, engine running, that had just flattened to Thai schoolgirls on a motorbike.

    They weren't wearing helmets.

Actually, I was highlighting the somewhat otiose criticism of an ageing expat who clearly suffered an unfortunate medical mishap when one considers that over 25,000 Thai die annually on the roads through a cocktail of stupidity, recklessness, irresponsibility and incompetence.

It's clearly not otiose if a few more of the aging expats on TD read the criticism and realize that they shouldn't take young kids on a motorcycle. After all, TD is the demographic...
