Chinas President Xi Jinping trumpets victory in campaign to end rural poverty

Chinas President Xi Jinping trumpets victory in campaign to end rural poverty-12689986-16x9-xlarge-jpg

China's government is celebrating President Xi Jinping's "complete victory" in the country's campaign to eradicate rural poverty.

    Key points:

    • Mr Xi says China has invested 1.6 trillion yuan ($310 billion) in fighting poverty over the past eight years
    • Average income per person among the "rural underprivileged" in China reportedly more than tripled between 2015 and 2020
    • China is still using standards applied to the world's poorest countries

However, some experts say China has set a low bar in its definition of poverty, with sustained investment required to fund continued development in its poorest areas.

The party announced in November, with little fanfare, that China no longer had anyone in extreme poverty.

That was down from an official estimate of almost 99 million living on annual incomes of less than 2,300 yuan ($446) per person a decade ago.

The full-scale propaganda campaign launched this month has filled state-controlled newspapers and airwaves with reports on the anti-poverty milestone and Mr Xi's personal role in it.

    HERE
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

Mighty big words worthy of Trump and Mussolini

OhNo, Klondyke, Skidmark and 1.3 billion Chinese will be cheering (have to be cheering) when the reality is this:

Has the Communist Party done a good job decreasing poverty? No doubt . . . Erased it? Just more bullshit communist Chinese propaganda.

You've got no chance. The winter of discontent, the great depression, power cuts in Texas, food banks etc etc.

The brainwashed buffoons will be furiously googling images and cut and pastes on orders of the Kremlin and the CCP as we speak.

That's how it works, the great depression, homelessness, crime, power cuts, food banks etc, are proof that capitalism doesn't work, and when we see mass poverty and despair in commie societies that's because it's not real communism.

How much off this is offset by the poverty, starvation and homelessness they have caused around the world with their parasitic plundering I wonder?

That's an utter cop-out for failed totalitarian systems that have caused more despair and hardship than any other.

'Real' communism is so theoretically ideologically sound, practically impossible but the states that go by this moniker rule only by terror

    You highlight some yourself.

There are also numerous other yardsticks to compare China's successes but no need too.

One doesn't need to any more they are displayed on a daily basis. Sometimes as an alleged "success".

I believe the measures are determined from some new fangled yardstick. Possibly a determination by their censors, allowed on farkfuk, glogle or other some such defenders of public good, or not.

There is only acceptable apology, if "disappeared" overnight.

One can claim "misspeaking" during waterboarding at the GBay, Cuba, Institution of Free Speech and Human Rights.

Oh you just need to go back and see the damage done by chinkies plundering fish stocks in Africa, poisoning Laos land they've hijacked to overfarm bananas, the damage done to Cambodia's Tonle Sap and those who depend on it by their endless dams, the debt they've imposed on countries like Sri Lanka that have allowed them to purloin ports, the wood they are sucking up from forests all over Asia, and so on and so on and so on...

    Belt and Owed indeed.

And that's before we talk about their insatiable appetite for the world's rare wildlife they think will make their tiny dicks get bigger.

Totalitarian for sure, but failed by whose standards?

At the risk of setting off a chain reaction by stating what should be obvious, the CCP cannot be faulted for exploiting conditions toward what they view as their best interests. Every major power has done this throughout history.

Little is hidden, we know China swallows up strategic businesses and other infrastructure, long agricultural leases and massive property folios, with utter disregard for people and the environment, and more, so the intel community are also aware that this is going on. And each time we return to the uncomfortable reality of short game with rules vs long game with no rules; place your bets!

No kidding, where would you place your bet as a world leader that's going to be history in 4 or 5 years? They lack the will to resist, where the will is not quite dead the resources wouldn't make a dent, and nobody wants a big fail on their CV, so let's be pragmatic, the end game will manifest for some future generation by which time we're long gone, so let's make do with second best because our Chinese friends are also quite generous.

No need to like it, but as long as the CCP rules China the only changes will be cosmetic, which happens to perfectly correlate with above, since democratic western leaders also have no taste for regime change in countries where the target wouldn't break sweat shooing them off.
