Mother appeals for justice for her child who died waiting for a doctor

A single mother has appealed for justice for her one-year old son, who died at a hospital in Tha Yang district of Phetchaburi province, after allegedly waiting about five hours for a doctor to tend to him.

33-year old Sitthiya Arunrote told the media, at her son Akakrawin’s funeral at Wat Nong Chok in Tha Yang district, that she had rushed him to the hospital at about midnight on February 12th, after he had developed a high fever and suffered seizures.

Upon arrival at the hospital, a nurse administered an intravenous injection through a leg of the boy, believing that he might be suffering from a lung infection, she said. After having waited for a few hours for a doctor, she realized the condition of her son had not improved and urged the nurse to have him transferred to the provincial hospital, but to no avail as the nurse insisted that she and her son had to wait for the doctor’s arrival.

When the doctor finally arrived, he ordered that the boy be put on a respirator, but he died about an hour later.

The hospital director later visited the victim’s family at the funeral with a wreath and a promise to investigate the incident, said Sitthiya.

The typical bullshit of a funeral visit to make amends . . . and promises

The wreath is about the only thing the poor lady will probably ever receive although if she has the right kinds of friends she may get some financial compensation.

If that same situation happened at a clinic here the result would be similar.

The medical establishment can get away with murder and they often do.

So there is no doctor at night. He/she only works days. On the surface that looks normal. Difficult for the nurse(s)? At what point to call the doctor in?
Could actually happen anywhere under the same circumstances. I have been kept in and not allowed to leave until the specialist says so. The duty doctor came and bought me a coffee but he had to defer to the day work doctor about letting me go home.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

Thai doctors do get away with a ton of shit here. I wouldn't call this one murder but certainly criminal negligence, and as with much else nothing will change since they're protected by the law in return for the great good they do, which is how my own (Thai) lawyer put it while advising me away from action.

Joke doing the rounds n the 50s that funeral homes follow the medical profession; Thailand uses wats instead to burn the evidence.

This I stand by. You might be surprised what shoddy practices exist out there. We all know people who shouldn't have died.

When policies like the ridiculous war on drugs goes and on and on many people, many young people, die.

Probably a topic for another day.

I saw this advert for farang (or rather barang) jobs in SHK, $1,000 a month, ten hour days, free food and lodging.

A queue of people asking for PMs and details.

    It stank of boiler room.
