Pub owner charged with serving alcohol to underage persons

A 30-year-old pub owner in the southern Thai province of Songkhla was arrested at 4.00 a.m. this morning for serving alcohol to underage persons.

Songkhla police and soldiers entered the pub and found 33 clients aged between 17 and 19 drinking there.

The owner was charged with allowing people under the age of 20 to drink alcohol.

The raid was made under the order of Songkhla Governor Charuwat Kliangklao.

I don't think that will do, you likely have to hand them a brown envelope. Hope it goes well for you.

Probably because it's not enforced if you deliver your cake tins on time.

This was not my bar, and I don't recognise it.

I have never payed any back-handers, bribes, protection or any under the table bungs to anyone in Thailand regarding my bar or any of my previous businesses, nor have I ever been approached to do so. And as far as I am aware, neither has any of the other farang bar owners.

Depends how you set up your business. My bar is a restaurant so I can open as long as I like under the correct conditions.

    Yes.

If you mean because of COVID-19, there has been no information passed to us about earlier closing times. If there is a no alcohol day the police or government come around with letters telling us about it. Or they come around and remind us to close by midnight the night before.

It's a good community. We continue as normal until informed otherwise, then we do as we're told.

    a) which is your bar?
    b) most gaffers I know pay a bribe, even if it's called something else, though a couple have been busted despite their contributions to the greater good

    Yeah but you're an idiot.

    How about you ?

Some of my best friends pay their local policemen for the privilege of not being disturbed while breaking the law.

If they open to the vaccinated I will be there doing it with them.

Does one need to be involved in criminal activities to pay the police a bribe, in Thailand?

If you really don't know the answer to your question, afaik they pay a bribe in order to be left alone to conduct their lawful business.

No, your restaurant is a restaurant.

Otherwise it would be a bar.

Also you're in Chiang Rai aren't you?

    Yes -

    No -

You do realise the longer you ignore the same question the less likely it is that you and Fluke are the same person

A friend who used to own a bar on the Darkside used to "donate" 5k a month to the local police and in return they would check up on the bar during the night after closing time and prompt to attend the bar if police assistance was required.
Also used to give him a heads up if someone further up the police food chain was coming to do a surprise visit.... which typically was always a Thursday night.... the night of the week we would be in a back room playing our weekly game of Texas Hold-Em.
