    Valentine flower sales down 60%

BANGKOK (NNT) - Despite the Valentine’s Day holiday taking place this weekend, flower sales at Pak Khlong Talad flower market are reportedly down 60 percent due to continuing fears about COVID-19.

Flower sellers at Pak Khlong Talad, a center for fresh flowers in Bangkok, has prepared roses of different types and various prices in anticipation of demand for Valentine’s Day. Prices this year are 350 Baht for a bouquet of 50 roses, large roses at 50 baht each, and 250 baht up to create an arrangement. All of the prices are slightly up due to the holiday.
Nonetheless, buying has been subdued this year because of the new wave of COVID-19, with sellers acknowledging a drop in sales due to many people seeing them as an unnecessary expense. Some vendors have changed their sales tactics to make up for the loss in demand.

The vendors indicated they are hopeful their smaller, more affordable bouquets will be an attractive option for buyers. They have added online ordering to facilitate purchasing by people who may not want to travel to the market. They nonetheless expect that sales will increase this February 13-14.

Business must be picking up, same time last year they were dumping tons of rotting flowers.

Tip for those spending more time in the yard lately; missus visited Nong Nooch yesterday for some garden shopping, came back delighted with the fortune saved on her truckload of stuff over the equivalent prices at local garden markets.

Maybe try a different tactic next year - reducing prices. You never know! It might work.

Lots of businesses in Siam Square must make about half their annual profit from this day, but with Chula shut they'll be screwed.

Hopefully some can make a few bob via delivery.
