Cool weather continues in upper Thailand, isolated thundershowers forecast for South

The moderate high pressure continues to cover upper Thailand, leading to cool to cold weather with light fog in the morning, the Thailand Meteorological Department said on Friday.

People should take care of their health due to the variable weather, the department said.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon still prevails over the Gulf and the South with isolated thundershowers in some provinces, it added.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours:

Bangkok and its vicinity: cool morning with light fog; minimum temperature 21-23 degrees Celsius, maximum 32-35°C; northeasterly winds 10-20 kilometres per hour kph)..

North: Cool to cold in the morning with light fog; minimum temperature 13-17°C, maximum 29-35°C; cold to very cold on mountaintops with minimum 4-12°C; southwesterly winds 10-20kph.

Northeast: Cool to cold in the morning with light fog; minimum temperature 13-18°C, maximum 28-32°C; cold to very cold on mountaintop with minimum temperature 6-11°C; northeasterly winds 10-20kph.

That should be cold enough for snow though I've never heard of snow in Thailand ? I lived in the south about an hour from the Malaysian border and when I asked people about snow "up north" they used tell me it had never ever snowed in the Kingdom.

Everything is relative of course in terms of cool and cold.

I woke up to an unusual minus 25 C with a nasty wind this morning. Makes life a real struggle.

I understand I need a thousand posts to change my location. I never was in Muskogee. I currently reside in the Okanagan Valley in the southern interior of B.C. It's desert country.

What are you smoking or drinking Russell? 4 degrees to 12 degrees Celsius is not below freezing and that is what you need for snow.

I don’t think it has ever snowed on Doi Inthanon. There have been hailstorms and heavy frosts which looked like snow, but none of the light fluffy stuff falling from the sky.

First question first. I do very occasionally dabble in marijuana products but never do so while posting. My day is for work not for smoking weed.
Currently when I smoke these days it's likely to be kesh.

What about you? Fair is fair.

The second question, question number two.

You're quite right AO I failed to convert properly. Me bad. Thanks for catching that.

No never. I never made it up to Northern Thailand although I had several opportunities to go. I deeply regret this now

You might be surprised how many times I've been asked that exact question. As to the squirrels, I never have. Thinking about it though I would give it a try, likely prepared something like Cornish game hens. We are talking squirrels and not chipmunks I presume?

As to the Yetis, to be fair, that would require a much longer answer. The short answer would be, I may well have.

I am not sure what they mean with the term Cool. Are they stating it based on lower than seasonal avg? Here in Lampang yesterday it was 17c in the morning and topped out at 34c.

So, at my few visits there I was lucky once in winter to see snow and frozen puddles. Of course, the snow more like a touch of snow...

So you were there in 1955? Still doubt about snow that time, but other than that its frost or hail that you are seeing..

Snow in Thailand? The Truth About 1955

Snow in Thailand: Back in the Winter of 1955

The story goes that there after the rain came snow-like-hail, which produced a white blanket of snow on the ground.
You have to admit, the ground does look white and fluffy in that picture.
This “snow” remained for about 14 hours and then melted away.
This story is fiercely contested by snow geeks who say the “snow” was formed by hail and therefore doesn't constitute a proper snowfall.
However, residents beg to differ and boast proudly of their claim to snow fame.
Snow or not, this is as close as you're going to get to it in Thailand, because this is the one and only time “snow” has ever fallen.

WTF are you talking about? You stated you saw snow on Doi Inthanon, I posted it was only in 1955, then you say Chaing Rai? Funny fellow you are.

Not sure how we got off on a "Snow in Thailand" tangent but I can say I have experienced two of those rogue hail storms here up north and while quite amazing, they are really not any fun. You just run for cover as huge hail balls pelt everything.

Anyway, this morning was 18c at 6:04am when I headed out to start my morning on the property. At 11am it was already 28. Brrrrrrr...

    Lets ask Dil about snow.

    Lost in translation...

https://teakdoor.com/thailand-and-as...ml#post4221775 (Cool weather continues in upper Thailand, isolated thundershowers forecast for South)

The only ever official (I use that word loosely) snow recorded in Thailand was in Chiang Rai on 7th January 1955.
    ---
The lowest temperature ever recorded for Chiang Rai is 2°C, about 35°F.
    ---
The lowest ever recorded temperature in Bangkok was 9.9°C (49.8 °F) in January 1955, which coincidentally was the same year snow fell in Chiang Rai. So maybe this was snow, after all.

Yeah, he's really chuffed about his move, apparently.

Just as he was about moving to Malaysia from Patterz.

Or so he said at the time.

    *sigh*

I lived in Chiang Mai for more than 20 years and know for a fact it does not snow on Inthanon. You are mistaking FROST for snow. The frost is what Thai tourists go there to see. Most of them, though I can’t say all, know this is not SNOW.

Celebrating Valentine's Day on Doi Inthanon

Doi Inthanon National Park in Chom Thong district of Chiang Mai province on Sunday saw a big influx of tourists wanting to see the sunrise and frost to mark Valentine's Day.

The Thailand Meteorological Department on Sunday forecast the weather in the northern region to be cool with fog in the morning and 1-3°C rise in temperature. The weather on the mountaintop is expected to be cold to very cold with a minimum temperature of 4-12°C.
