3 Arrested For Luring Thai Women Into Sex Work at Chinese Owned Brothel in Dubai

The Department of Special Investigations (DSI) has announced that 3 people have been arrested for human trafficking after they allegedly lured Thai women to work as sex workers in the United Arab Emirates.

The suspects, whose names were not released by authorities, were arrested last Wednesday – one in Chon Buri and the other two in Ubon Ratchathani, on warrants issued by the Criminal Court. They have been remanded in the custody of the court.

Following their arrest, the suspects were charged with colluding to violate anti-human trafficking regulations and detaining and/or depriving others of their freedom.

Deputy director-general of the DSI, Supat Thamthanarug, said the suspects told their victims they would be working as masseuses in the emirate, promising them attractive pay and assuring the work wouldn’t involve sex.

Pol Lt Col Thamthanarug said the women were required to sign an agreement before they set off for the UAE, which outlined the legal repercussions of failing to re-pay the fees incurred in sending them to the emirate.

Upon arriving in the UAE, the victims said they were immediately taken to a massage parlour in Dubai, where their passports were taken away by the Chinese owner. Some of the women were taken to a brothel in the capital, Abu Dhabi, he said.

I got a phone call from a friend in CM a few weeks back about three ladies trapped in a Middle East country. They had flown there expect to work "in the game" so to speak, but were basically being paid nothing.

All I told her was to get one of them to leg it to the embassy. They do take this stuff seriously, and the Thais will have made the arrests on tip offs from the girls who reported it to the Emiratis.

    Good for them.

However the girls will end up back where they started, and will probably end up getting chased for money back. These three will be part of a much bigger, transnational operation.

They will still have to pay that money back and they also may have to pay for another flight back and quarantine .
This is going to cost them alot of money .
They went to the Embassy seeking help with receiving a salary and now they're getting deported
Maybe they wanted to stay and work there and just to start to receive payment ?
Only they can say whether going to the Embassy was a good idea or not .
It already cost them a lot of money.

The only question is whether they paid up front for what they perceived to be a legitimate job with the intention of paying back those costs from their earnings (usually the money is borrowed locally or drummed up by the family); or they took on a financial commitment to work on the game and pay back the cost of the tickets, visas and some profit for the trafficker while being able to earn money of their own.

Both of those options exist and work for some people.

Unfortunately the naivety of these women is such that they are easily exploited by criminals who tell them either of these situations exist before essentially trapping them in unpaid sex work.

Only the first of those four options is actually legal, and even then it's morally reprehensible. Asians however see this as morally correct; look at the number of Thai government employees who pay for their positions.

Sure - but girls obviously don't get flown over there and then just go freelance.

For reasons you went on to explain, albeit in a very garbled way, in the rest of your post.

If they were being held against their will or forced into prostitution, I could understand them seeking help from the Embassy .
There only gripe was that they were not getting paid .
They signed an agreement to repay the money it cost to get them out there .
Seems like the girls backed out of the signed agreement and then went to complain to the Emabsssy which resulted in them ALL getting into trouble
A signed agreement to go to the UAE and whore?

    Are you fucking demented?

    Oh yes, I forgot, sorry.

Line of work probably wasnt mentioned , even if it was "prostitution" almost definitely wasn't mentioned , but they knew exactly what they were going there for
