Group of Chinese businessmen hand out over a thousand meals to the needy in Pattaya d

A group of Chinese businessmen, who preferred to stay anonymous, handed out just over a thousand meals to the needy in Pattaya on Wednesday evening.

The donation event took place near Third Road and was also attended by Pattaya City Police who ensured that social distancing and other Covid-19 related measures took place.

Hundreds of local residents were seen standing in line for the event well before the giveaway.

Pattaya is currently going through a round of closures and business restrictions as well as travel restrictions associated with a recent outbreak of Covid-19 in Chonburi. Although cases have drastically reduced with zero new confirmed cases in Pattaya in the last week officials still have not lifted measures that have put tens of thousands out of work.

Although many venues can open, like restaurants, they are either restricted on hours or diminished on number of customers due to travel restrictions to the Chonburi province. To enter or leave the province currently requires permission from a district official in writing, essentially killing domestic tourism which was keeping the city alive, especially on weekends.

Chonburi Public Health Officials say they will be reviewing the measures at the end of the month. However, this isn’t a guarantee of opening.

Drawing comparisons.... It's just one big happy family in the land of China. No caption with the picture but I am guessing it's Uighurs handing out food in Xinjiang to down on their luck Han Chinese who have been forced by the CCP to go there.

And they say Thailand has never been colonised............

I believe the Thai government has had a system of registration for people who are impoverished by COVID and cannot pay for food who are issued vouchers or some such scheme to ensure they can buy sufficient for their needs including all aged of pensionable age.

In Pattaya these free handouts by the various charities - usually advertised well in advance by the various foreign business community members and other 'groups' - are attended well in a carnival atmosphere by folk whose cherubic fat smiling faces suggest hunger has not been an acquaintance for many a year.

Sin City has a soft underbelly, not freely advertised. The charity there is much more than you might think.

Yes, there are of course several notable and very worthy charitable institutions here and of course elsewhere doing fine work, for whom individual foreigners make a valuable contribution including reputable established companies, particularly in Bangkok and frontier districts, but the point I was making was in reference to the so-called farang 'business' communities legitimising themselves by making a show of their 'altruism' but whose motives are not necessarily rooted in philanthropy.
