    Doi Inthanon freezes

CHIANG MAI (NNT) - This morning the temperature on Doi Inthanon fell to freezing point and the morning dew turned to frost.

The cold weather is the result of a low temperature weather system from China, which is still over northern Thailand. The region is still cool to cold with strong gusts.

Northern Thailand is expected to see temperatures fall by another 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, while other regions can expect a fall of 1 to 2 degrees. However, from December 24 the country will see a rise in temperatures.

The weather on Doi Inthanon this morning is cold, especially at Kew Maepan and on the top of the hills, where it was as low as 0 degrees Celsius. Morning dew drops froze into frost.

When the frost was bathed in sunlight, making it glitter, to the amazement of visitors. The sea of fog around the hills makes the views even more memorable. Doi Inthanon is expected to see more cold weather through to the end of the year. The authorities suggested that all visitors should prepare themselves for the cold and wear appropriate outfits. Vehicles should also be checked before driving up the hills.

2020 would be the perfect year for Thailand to get a dusting of snow, at least up on the mountain.

    Nah
This is the time of year for the rich bastards to make merit and hand out blankets to the poor bastards, who are getting cheated all year by the rich bastards, who are a tiny bit insecure about their karma or face and therefore pray for shit weather, so they can go and hand out some blankets to the poor bast...........

Camped out up there about 10 years ago and we had snow flurries in the campsite.
Made the front page of the Chiang Mai paper as I recall.
The vendor selling gloves at the time was making out well.
You weren't allowed to build fires in the campground, but you could barbecue.
So we filled our small barbecue grill with firewood and most people in the camp came over to get some warmth.
I have fond memories of that night (but my Thai wife and son were quite cold)
Here's a picture of my son by the fire.

Harriet will be here soon to moan about the ruinously expensive 'giving out blankets' scandal, when the sponging spendthrifts were given one just twelve months ago and can't have looked after it properly.

Bringing the country to its knees, it is.

This happens pretty well every year.

Must be the easiest space filler in Thailand.

That and variations of "Joyous revellers get wet in Songkran".

Two days after the 'chaos at morchit as travellers head home'.

    Almost writes itself.
