16 Chinese & 5 Myanmar Nationals Caught Illegally Entering Thailand

The Thai navy announced that 16 Chinese nationals were arrested for illegally entering the country through natural channels along the Thai-Lao border in Nong Khai.

Commander of the Mekong Riverine Unit in Nong Khai Warat Kopolrat said the group was arrested on Saturday night along the banks of the Mekong River while attempting to enter Muang district.

Capt Kopolrat said the Chinese nationals were spotted and arrested by officials patrolling the river.

Investigations are still underway as to why they entered Thailand illegally, but officials suspected they were trying to avoid the mandatory 14-day quarantine requirement, which is required of all foreign arrivals due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

None of those arrested had any identification documents with them, Capt Kopolrat said, adding the group is currently detained at Nong Khai police station.

Separately, the chief of Border Patrol Police Division 146, Samrit Chanpratad, said in Prachuap Khiri Khan’s Muang district yesterday said five Myanmar citizens were caught sneaking into Thailand through a natural border crossing in tambon Huai Sai.

Pol Maj Samrit said they have been tested for COVID-19 and their test results were negative.

Of those arrested, three men said they came from Mawlamyine in Myanmar. They said they paid migrant smugglers 20,000 baht each to take them to an employer in Samut Sakhon, he said.

The remainder, a mother and her child, came from Tanintharyi in Myanmar’s Myeik province, Pol Maj Samrit said, adding she crossed the border to meet her husband, who works in Thap Sakae district. Sources said police have opened 24-hour checkpoints nearby all trails along the border to block Myanmar migrants from illegally entering the country.

@ HH. You only feel like a criminal if you chose to. I look at the 90day reporting as part of their system so I can live here. I have never felt like a criminal and the check in process is a 5 minute deal.

That said though, the process should be reviewed for people who work here, own a home, married to a Thai, have children etc. If you are here as a tourist or on a retirement Visa checking in is a way for them to manage a lot of the riff raff that washes up on these shores. If not this place would be filled with scumbags and criminals in no time.

90 Day reporting serves no useful purpose whatsoever and is simply a mechanism whereby the Thai can satisfy their societal devotion to racism and xenophobia. The stupidity of it is of course the fact that it is those who have already proved their bona fides by the production of comprehensive documentation in a usually lengthy process who must attend for tri-monthly scrutiny whereas just about any swinging dick from the West can sail into the country on a visit for 30 days without any examination beyond a search of a deficient database.

And of course, no other country practises such idiocy which probably tells you all you need to know about its imbecility.

I have to say that in the course of my attendances good manners in acknowledging one's existence by a polite exchange of pleasantries, a please or indeed a thank you, are usually absent from the staff.

Their arrogant rudeness is appalling and gives lie to the myth the Thai are happy smiling polite folk only too keen to be nice - a charade that they only indulge when they want money or some other advantage.

Other countries do not have mandatory reporting requirements for migrants? It is mostly online in the West, but you still have to do it..

UKVI - Change your address or your legal representative's details - When to use the form

Don't know whether I would call it probation but yeah every 90 days a report needs to be done, the HR girl does it for me online.

FWIW, I dont live at the address that is reported..... prolly should get around to fixing that one day.

yes F. i am begining to think about useing an agent after last years ext.shambles by a new IO. who must have just come out of hi.school.
today i do my extension, lets see how this goes, all my ducks are in a row,but now in korat they have a new system where you have everything checked by a student outside the office.when i did my last 90day report i asked the one checking for the ext.forms for retirement.she failed to give me the TM.7 form.

Luckily my extension is not yearly, HR Girl here sorts it all and then I just have to front up the day they are going to stamp passport.... apparently I have to be there in person.

yes F. it does say you MUST attend in PERSON, yet there are agents there with brief case's full of passports and forms.
one thing in my favour is i dont have to drive any more so the stress of being on these roads is no longer there,i have a driver who i am comfortable with.

    Yeah seen those agents there.

HR Girl here goes to One Stop to sort every thing then calls me to tell me what time to come, then takes about 15min each to renew extension and work permit.

I love driving here, way way much better than Aus with there constant threat of huge fines and/or jail time for the simplest little traffic infringement.
