Police officer allegedly shoots and kills married couple, injures ex-wife at Isaan

A police officer was arrested for allegedly firing shots in an Isaan restaurant, killing a married couple and severely injuring his ex-wife. 44 year old Aram Sangchai is facing charges of premeditated murder.

Aram had just returned home to the Isaan province Buri Ram from Bangkok after working with a police unit at the November 27 pro-democracy protest. The Bangkok Post says Aram “stormed” into the restaurant with a handgun and opened fire. He waited at the restaurant and surrendered to police.

The victims were taken to the Non Suwan Hospital where Jaran and Somkid Sukwong, ages 42 and 37, were pronounced dead. Aram’s ex-wife, 42 year old Nucharin Kaewchaturat, was transferred to Buri Ram Hospital and is in serious condition.

He was my next-door neighbour and he went to his SiL first to inform her what he'd done and then went home across the road. He stayed at the house for about an hour before being talked into surrendering.

There's a bit of a story to it but I'll keep it short. The policeman and his wife had been having troubles for a while and she wanted him to leave. In between time the wife had been seeing an ex who's wife allowed him to have sexual relations with her. And it came to a climax last night after the policeman had been drinking. Me and another farang had been drinking in the restaurant about an hour and a half prior to the shooting and we knew of the situation but we're totally shocked as to the shooting.

The wife will survive as she was shot in the mouth with the bullet exiting out side her jaw. Me and my missus will be visiting her tomorrow.

Correct. The ex boyfriends wife had gynecologial problems and therefore gave permission for her husband to have sex with the policeman's divorced wife.

I'm waiting for the movie to come out.

We had a bloke working for us who was a keen cyclist but had a major crash which rendered him unable to perform his marital duties. He was OK with his wife banging anyone as long as she kept it out of sight.

The Arabs had quite the thing for her as she was a chunky white lady; one even paid for a tit job.

They seemed happy enough with the arrangement.

It always impresses me how the thais can turn their living rooms, gardens, sheds and motorcycle sidecars into little businesses to supplement their earnings.

Pity that here in the UK we are so hamstrung by regulations and certification that without navigating the banks, the health and safety, the accountants, the VAT people and the myriad jobsworths who like nothing better than stamping "permission refused" it is almost impossible to open a small enterprise.

Years ago, well decades, I used to frequent the occasional kedai in villages outside the various Brit airbases in Singapore, either Jalan Kayu outside Seletar or Changi village, where the range of hospitality extended to a large bottle of lukewarm Tiger or Anchor for a dollar or so, a stool and a rickety table adjacent to a wooden shed with a bare bulb attracting an interesting selection of insects competing for one's attention with the fleas hopping off the dusty floor to nibble at one's ankles in the absence of the local dogs. Usually run by Chinese they would have the occasional binte sitting to one side for social exchanges but given our youth and their reticence to mix with mere schoolboys the potential was never explored. If one's appetite was piqued then a neighbouring Indian stall would offer a roti and a bowl of thin fiery gravy to prompt more lukewarm beers. All in all a reasonable evening spent doing imitations of the Goons, getting merry and fagging away on Lucky Strikes was possible well within the compass of a week's pocket money. Of course none of this would have been possible, or even allowed, back in dreary parochial Blighty, a dystopia to which Brexit loons are now returning.

Apropos the casus belli, it is simply another case of an uncivilised neanderthal still processing his transition from a peasant jungle society into a modern urban environment and lacking the cognitive skills to deal with his stunted emotional development. Getting shot in the jaw can be lethal given the neural networks involved but one must defer to Tax in these matters. The poor woman, they are always the victim in this wretched society of men who are all little more than pre-adolescents.

That shebeen looks really quite depressing. Poor Prag, reduced to seeking social amenity in such circumstances.

Oh, I forgot to ask, do they have a policy on sausages?

    Getting shot in the jaw
could be fatal if the bullet severed one of the major arteries in that area, an "in one cheek and out the other cheek" shot could take out a few teeth and part of the tongue, mandible and maxilla and leave her with some nasty scarring and a tricky reconstruction job for the surgeon. damage to motor nerves may leave her with drooping musculature and speech defects. as with most gunshot wounds, a millimetre here and a millimetre there in the trajectory can make all the difference between outcomes.

a bullet entering via the front of the mouth and hitting the back of the mouth would undoubtedly be much more serious.

That's what happened. We went and visited her today and her injuries don't appear to be life threatening. They're waiting for the swelling to subside and will probably operated on on Friday. To get the swelling down they keep applying towels kept in the refrigerator. She also thinks or feels that some teeth maybe stuck in her throat as that's how it feels. That too will be looked at on Friday.

Apparently when the policeman shot the guy 9 times he just stood there laughing while doing it. I really can't picture him doing that as he was a reserved kind of person who didn't have any friends, other than other policemen, and worked hard on their family land when not on duty. A real tragedy.

As I keep saying, Prag, these people are underdeveloped and simply do not function as others in the world. They have no logic to which we can relate. And there it is. Quite why you folk sequester yourselves among them is beyond understanding.

sounds more like boy scout first aid than emergency treatment for a gunshot wound to the back of the mouth, but i guess the quacks have deemed it not life threatening, although swelling in the pharyngeal region can compromise the airway if not monitored.

it will be interesting to see the outcome of the trial, will the police look after their own and just hush it up and will the wife testify against her husband, because according to the link i posted, although they were as good as separated they were still on good terms.

I asked my missus about that and she said they were divorced about 6 years ago but he wouldn't go away and they rarely spoke. He'd been asking for her families help in talking to her for a fresh start but she wouldn't have it. There was also strong rumours going about that she was sleeping with the man killed. That may have been the trigger for the ex husbands actions. Excuse pun.

As for the police looking out for their own then she agrees. She thinks that whatever sentence he gets will be reduced over time. IE good behaviour, kings birthdays etc. Being a policeman, should we say ex policeman? He'll be put to use whilst in jail which again will reduce his time served. Time will tell.

pag will be able to confirm, but i think the couple in the yellow shirts are the victims, if you look at the video linked on the website there is a photo of the shooters wife, the one who is in hospital. the older couple are in laws or neighbours who know the shooter and his victims.

some grim shots of the police station too, the cells looks like something out of a 1950's cowboy film.
