The latest Covid-19 patient in Thailand visited a bar host even after she started developing symptoms. The 29-year-old was confirmed positive in Chiangmai on 26 November 2020. She traveled illegally into Thailand from the border through natural passageways into Chiang Rai Province then later went to Chiang Mai. The woman went to a shopping mall, lives in a condo, visited a shopping mall, and visited a bar host. A bar host in Thailand is where you can go to have fun with men who work there. She started developing symptoms and decided to visit the doctor. The investigation has revealed there are over 300 high-risk persons who have come in contact with the patient.


Officials went to inspect the bar host along with disinfecting the area on the 28th. The patient visited the bar host on the 24th and left on the 25th. The bar host is now temporarily shut down. Kan 26-year-old lives near the bar host and is also a customer who stated he recently visited the bar host and is shocked by the news. Kan worries that it is highly possible the woman could’ve spread the virus. The business is small with a lot of people inside, there are 50 men working inside not including customers. The bar host is very popular with both female and male customers visiting the business every day.







Kan reveals there is a lot of skin touching between customers and employees. No one wears masks inside and there is no social distancing so there is a high risk from the incident. The business opens and at night and closes in the morning with a lot of customers every day. Central Festival Chiangmai where the patient visited closed down on the 28th for a big cleaning day. Doctor Opat Karnkavinpong from the Department of Disease Control and other related officials reported on the 28th details of the case. The patient traveled to Myanmar on 24 October – 23 November 2020.

On the 23rd she started developing symptoms including fever, diarrhea, and loss of smell. On the 24th she traveled into Chiang Rai and into Chiang Mai on public buses. Before testing positive she called a vehicle on Grab 6 times. She also admitted to sharing a cigarette with a friend, shared drinks, went to eat at the mall, and watched a movie at the cinema. Security cameras revealed she wore a mask but not all the time.

Chiang Mai Told to Stay Calm – COVID-19 Case Update

On Sunday, the provincial public health office in Chiang Mai called for calm as officials were yet to detect any further infections among people who had been in close contact with an infected Thai woman feared to be a superspreader.


Songyos Khamchai, who is in charge of communicable diseases at the office, said the first tests on people in a high-risk group were negative, and all were put in a state quarantine facility for 14 days, where they would be tested again.


“The situation in Chiang Mai is not serious because only one patient was found to have been infected with the virus,” the official said in a radio programme from the public relations office in the northern province.


The Disease Control Department identified 105 people as being in a high-risk category due to their coming into close contact with the infected patient, a 29-year-old Thai woman who sneaked across the border from the Burmese city of Tachilek to Mae Sai in Chiang Rai province on 23rd November


She then caught a bus to Chiang Mai, where she went shopping at CentralFestival and drinking at a bar in Santitham – all while suffering from a fever.


Another 149 people were considered at low risk, while 72 more were identified to have been in the general areas visited by the woman. A total of 326 people are thought to have potentially been exposed to COVID-19.


Grab Thailand said that for safety reasons, it has temporarily suspended several drivers who transported the patient between Tuesday and Friday last week after the firm was contacted by the Disease Control Department.


The discovery of the COVID-19 case came as Chiang Mai province plans a series of activities in remembrance of the late King Bhumibol on his birthday on 5th December. The country is also preparing for a long weekend from 10th – 13th December to promote tourism, which was crippled by the virus outbreak.

Chiang Mai Remains on High Alert as Governor Visits COVID-19 Checkpoint


Provincial governor Charoenrit Sanguansat said today that Chiang Mai remains on high alert but no lockdown is planned following the recent discovery of new COVID-19 infections.


Mr Sanguansat gave the assurance during an early morning visit to boost morale at a checkpoint on a road between Chiang Mai city and Doi Saket district.


He said that after Chiang Mai registered its 42nd COVID-19 case, a woman who had returned from Myanmar without going through quarantine, health officials began an intense effort to track down people who had been in close contact with her.


They had managed to locate almost all of them, including the three people thought to be at highest risk of infection. They had been brought into the COVID-19 screening and control process, the governor said.


All people travelling to Chiang Mai were now subject to tight screening at COVID-19 checkpoints, especially on roads from Doi Saket and Mae Ai districts.


Mr Sanguansat said no new announcements were pending, with no plan to put Chiang Mai in lockdown at this stage. Many people had asked about this, he added.


However, the city had been placed on high alert. All people were asked to wear face masks and strictly follow health guidelines, he said.
