Pattaya local residents concerned over smog and air pollution

Local residents in Pattaya have shown increasing levels of concern over the air quality in Pattaya over the past several days, in which a large cloud of what appears to be smog has settled over the city obscuring the view and ability to see the islands in Pattaya Bay.

Yesterday, (November 19th), in particular, Pattaya saw thick smog blanketing the city especially from high buildings and open areas.

It alarmed local residents due to potential health concerns who took to social media as well as contacting The Pattaya News directly to express their concern.

Locals are being advised to wear protective masks and take proactive measures to protect themselves from the dust when going outside. Outside exercise, according to authorities, should be limited.

Pattaya area officials have not directly stated what has caused the pollution, however, The Pattaya News notes that mass sugar cane burning in rural areas around Thailand, including near the city, has been found in the past to be the primary cause. With significant less levels of traffic, boats, buses and tourists due to the Covid-19 pandemic and ban on most general foreign tourists from entering the country, these factors that were previously named as “the cause” by officials appear to not be the problem.

Sugar cane burning is against Thai law but citizens and expats complain that it is not enforced well and as a result leads to the near yearly pollution levels in the city as a result. Comments online have asked regional and national government officials to take a stronger stance on Sugar Cane farmers and large companies that operate the farms. Additionally, citizens have asked that customers of the farms reject burnt sugar cane which would also help force farmers to resort to other methods of harvesting.

one must truly feel sorry for the long suffering retirees now firmly sequestered in thailands premier shithole with nothing to do and nowhere to go.

once the worlds largest brothel, home to thousands of cackling isaan farmgirls making a living by peddling out their overworked genitals to misfits and mongers from as far away as bangalore, wuhan, lagos and macclesfield and of course the drug addicted leeches that control them, the city has now become a ghost town as the tourist trade has all but dried up, businesses have gone under and workers desert the city in their droves. leaving only the ageing expats, stranded marooned and beached as it were, to sit on their balconies, stare forlornly into the hazy sunset and wonder how on earth it could have come to this.

and as if to hammer yet another nail into the decaying coffin that is pattaya, a cloud of choking toxic gas has now descended over the diseased metropolis.

I was just about to say perhaps they have more to worry about than the air quality but youve put it more sussinctlly. Indeed .

Clear blue skies and a brief storm this evening, sorry to disappoint. As for the ghost town bit, only someone not in Pattaya could say that because it's anything but. Probably the worst traffic in Central Pattaya today since Covid started, ok it's a long weekend and every 2nd number plate was from Bangkok but all the same, the town is busy as it is most weekends now. Obviously not like it was before but like everywhere else in the world that relied on International tourism, downsizing had to happen.

Fuck the Chinese and stinking fucking Indians because there's obviously enough Expats and local tourists to keep plenty of businesses of every type open and it wouldn't bother me in the least if things stayed this way forever! Just the opinion of someone on the ground who's been here since the shit hit the fan, over some clueless fuck in England who needed his daily moan

if your happiness in life is dependant on the ambient temperature then it is possible you are not as happy as you think you are.

^Tell us about how good things are in England now then Einstein. From what I'm hearing from people on the ground there (who all wish to fuck they could be in Pattata as usual around this time of year as *winter* approaches in a Covid free environment) its getting cold wet and miserable now, all sorts of rules are in place that mean you can't even travel locally to meet a group of friends, restaraunts are delivery only again and pubs/entertainment venues are shut, no crowds allowed anywhere, and in general it's somewhere people would really like to not be.

But we've got "nothing to do and nowhere to go" in Pattaya? You're fuckng joking right, we can jump in our cars or on a plane and go anywhere in the country in any numbers and go to pubs, restaraunts, theatres, malls, golf, gyms, anywhere we want to regardless of how many people are there. Can you live a normal life right now with no restrictions? Can you fuck. I wouldn't trade places with with anyone in a country with Covid restrictions right now for anything especially fucking England, life's too short for that shit.

Expats on the Darkside certainly aren't complaining, except for the never ending roadworks on Soi Siam.

^No major changes due to Covid over there because nowhere relies on tourists. Ok, the Expat population shrunk somewhat but there's still plenty of places open and doing well and there's new places opening too. Haven't been yet, but that new American diner named Route 66 looks fantastic!

Except, it's not new. The original owner (a Brit actually) died of cancer. His wife took over, quite capably. No idea of ownership now. The Mexican, diagonally opposite, was actually quite good too- if it is still open.

Route CC didn't do a good burger, they did a great one with chips! Use to stop there regularly on the way home from golf for lunch, and don't think I ever ordered anything besides a cheeseburger with fries.

The new place is www.route66pattaya.com and the pics/reviews are all very good.

^^Are they even open? Can people just jump in their cars and go for a drive to eat/drink at one? If so, can a dozen friends who all live at different addresses get together for a few beers and a meal like we can and do in Thailand any time we want to? Would it even be worth it to be surrounded by the same moaning fucks in the same seats day after day waiting for death while scowling at strangers and having their daily whine about any topic that exists?

Lots of questions here for the guy who informs us that people here have nothing to do and nowhere to go

And clearly, anyone that fucking desperate for a full English wouldn't be going to an American diner to cry because there's no black pudding on the menu.

No, I'd go as there's a good chance they'd have decent bacon (or at least I would hope).

But that doesn't excuse not doing a bit of basic research.

If you can't find a decent full monty in Pattaya, you should have never left Huddersfield.

^Exactly. Jesus Christ even during Covid there must still be 100 places in town doing full English, literally, but here's a Pom whining there's no black pudding and PG tips 😅

Plenty of the places doing full English also have American breakfasts on their menus but would anyone seriously go there and cry because there's no biscuits and gravy? Well obviously not, they'd go to somewhere like Route 66 to get that.

I wouldn't go anywhere for "biscuits and gravy".

    What a repulsive concept.
