Thailand-China ink High Speed Rail deal

BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand and China signed a rail construction, train procurement, and personnel training contract for a Bangkok - Nakhon Ratchasima High Speed Rail service on the northeastern line. The Prime Minister said the project will help promote the economy, improve connectivity, and enhance person-to-person relations.

Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over a signing ceremony of Contract No. 2.3 for Phase 1 of the northeastern High Speed Rail project between Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima, constructed with the cooperation of the Thai government and the Chinese government.

This contract covers rail construction, electrical systems and machinery, train procurement, and training of personnel.

The Government Spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri cited the Prime Minister who said the government places high priority on this project, which will serve as a strategic route enhancing the country’s competitiveness while driving development in the country and the region, especially key cities along the railway.

He said the project will help strengthen ties between Thailand and China, reflecting a mutual commitment to infrastructure development to help promote economic prosperity, connectivity, and relations between the people of Thailand and China.

The Prime Minister said cooperation in this project will provide an opportunity for the exchange of technological knowhow, allowing Thailand to use the knowledge gained to further benefit the people, the country, and the region.

The chinkies are bribing hard to try and get control of this project.

The Export-Import Bank of China has offered Thailand a low-interest loan for construction of a belt and road project linking the Country with Kunming and Laos.
But repayment is just one concern, as analysts are uncertain Bangkok will ever turn a profit from the project
Despite Thailand’s vow to rely on domestic funding as it expands its network of high-speed railways, it could soon accept the offer of a low-interest loan from the Export-Import Bank of China (CEXIM) raising concerns about whether the country is on the verge of falling into a debt trap.

Some countries need any money they can get, especially for infrastructure. Like the Philippines.

    But Thailand isn't the Philippines.

Do you have something credible evidence for your "fix"?

My point? I too cannot provide any credible evidence about the previous PM's dealing. However, can you enlighten me whether the present govt is dealing in a crass difference (in negative sense) to any of the previous ones - even when they were "democratically" elected?

Jesus suffering christ. I said there is no difference. No matter how a government comes to power Thailand always ranks in the lower third of most corrupt.

You clearly haven't a clue re corruption in Thailand if you think there is a difference.

I might haven't a clue re corruption in Thailand, have you?

The corruption is deep rooted in Thai mentality as is the case in most of Asian countries. And I too do not have clue how low or high they ranking in the world. The Vietnam war had brought quite an incredible fortune to certain Thai elites, unfortunately, not to Thai population (mind the numerous girls becoming "fortunate").

So, where the money had come from? If there is a war, or it is going to come to a war, nobody asks. Similarly, just the day before 9/11, there should be a discussion with old good Rumsfeld about missing trillions, sorry, no time for such a "triviality".

And the money missing in the wars afterwards?

How this ranks? (in competition with Thailand?)

Considering this was all ready to go ahead under Thailand's last legitimate government (Yingluck), this High speed train deal has become a very low speed deal.
