COVID-19 alert on Koh Samui as French woman is found infected post-quarantine

Health officials on Thailand’s Samui Island are scrambling to trace people who were in close contact with a French woman, who has fallen sick and tested positive for COVID-19 since she completed her 14-day mandatory quarantine in Bangkok.

At a hastily-called media conference on the resort island this afternoon (Friday), Dr. Sophon Iamsirithavorn, Director of the country’s General Infectious Diseases Division, said that the 57-year old woman arrived in Bangkok, with two family members,on Thai Airways International flight TG933 on September 30th. They entered hotel based quarantine in the capital for 14 days. She underwent two swab tests and both returned negativeresults.

After leaving quarantine on October 15th, she went to the French Embassy, before flying to Samui Island with her family onBangkok Airways flight PG167. The family was met at the island’s airport by a friend and driven to their accommodation.

On October 17th, the woman developed a fever, cough and muscle pain. She was admitted to a private hospital on October 21st, but was discharged the following day, while results of the tests were pending.

The results showed a positive result and the COVID-19 infection was reconfirmed by the medical science centre in Surat Thani. She was readmitted to hospital and isolated for treatment on October 22nd.

Dr. Veerasak Lorthongkham, Director of Samui Hospital, said the patient’s husband and son tested negative, but a second test is to be conducted and both have been isolated.

Ten passengers and two crew from the Bangkok Airway’s flight have been asked in for tests and isolation tomorrow. 21 others, classified as being at low-risk, have been placed under close watch, he added.

So this has nothing to do with quarantine, and everything to do with her catching this bug in the 2 days she was wondering about.

Public health officials have tracked down and tested 15 people who they believe could be at “high-risk” of infection. They’ve all been isolated until their results are confirmed. Another 42 people are “under observation” and considered at “low risk”.

If I had written that, perhaps pointing out that PCR tests are not diagnostic, it would have been chucked into the bin.

No mention, in the article, of the testing source was of Chinese origin, what makes you make that allegation?

Holy fuck. Some frog blew it.

I dont think the virus is nearly as dangerous as it was in March. An old obese fuckhead of a man in Trump got it and recovered fast.

But this wont stop autistic health authorities from overreacting and shutting down the country

BGI Local Laboratory Solution for Non-invasive Prenatal Testing

China - specifically they use the BGI RT PCR kit as detailed there. Not a test. Its a kit that amplifies markers found in Covid 19 - even if it is dead or a single strand expelled from the body. THey are useless for diagnostics, hence why they are being used.

BGI’s Real-Time Fluorescent RT-PCR kit for detecting 2019-nCoV(SARS-CoV-2) is a qualitative in vitro nucleic acid amplification assay used to detect SARS-CoV-2 using reverse transcription PCR from throat swab and Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid(BALF) samples. The kit is widely used for rapid detection and outbreak control of COVID-19 in China. BGI is distributing its RT-PCR kits to more than 180 countries and regions around the world.

With its high specificity, sensitivity and rapid response, it can effectively assist the diagnosis of disease and improve the diagnosis efficiency.

Or, the incubation period varies according to conditions, and may be more than the arbitrary 14 days announced by scientists that still know very little about the virus.

The Thai practice of hospitalising all COVID infected, seemingly irrespective of their symptoms and degree of illness, is a luxury they might afford now but as the infection rebounds and infects the entire region, via Burma, it will of course cease. It is only when the virus is endemic within the country will its policy of excluding all air traffic end.

Or, she got infected from one of the hotel staff in her "alternative state quarantine".
