Meatball vendor killed in car accident, driver flees scene

A meatball vendor was killed in a horrifying auto accident in Bangkok’s Suan Luang district on Thursday, with the driver reportedly leaving his BMW and a girl who was with him at the scene before fleeing in van.

Khlong Tan station police were alerted to the accident early in the morning and rushed to the scene with King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital paramedics and rescue volunteers.

They found meatball vendor Udom Saengkanya, 49, dead on the street with a mutilated skull and broken limbs.

They also noticed a woman standing next to the white BMW parked nearby. Officers said she looked confused.

They learned that after the car hit Udom, the driver called for a van to pick him up and fled the scene.

The woman was still in shock and unable to provide the police with any useful information.

The police have collected footage from surveillance cameras and hope to identify the offender.

    Erm,

Arrest the girl until her shock wears off and ask her?

they also have the car, possibly the owner might have a clue as to who the driver was?

If it was a lambo someone, possibly the owner, would be making a theft report anytime soon.

Oh I'm sure he'll be doing that once he's sobered up.

They waited until he sobered up before arresting him. Hi-so kid needs to be made an example of but money rules.

    Quelle surprise.

BANGKOK — Police on Monday said results of an alcohol and drug test of a police officer who killed a fishball seller in a hit-and-run would take “weeks.”

Police Capt. and socialite Akarawin Taechaubol, or “Hiso Jimmy,” turned himself into investigators on Thursday after he struck the victim, 49-year-old Udom Saengkanya, and fled the scene.

Khlong Tan police chief Col. Ruetee Pandum said by phone that an alcohol and drug test for Akarawin was undergoing.

“We have to wait for the results. It will take weeks since we only filed on Thursday,” Ruetee said by phone Monday. “I don’t know how he settled with paying the family, but I heard he went to the funeral.”

When asked if Akarawin – both a socialite and policeman, would ever see the inside of a prison – Ruetee said while laughing nervously, “That’s up to the court.”

Akarawin’s BMW crashed into Udom and killed him close to Phattanakarn Soi 17 at about 4am on Thursday.
Akarawin fled the scene by hopping onto an Alphard driven by one of his men who happened to be trailing behind him.

Akarawin turned himself into the police at 4pm the same day
, and confessed to hitting Udom, police said.

He was charged with reckless driving resulting in death, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and fine of 200,000 baht, and fleeing the scene of an accident, which is punishable by six months in prison and a 20,000 baht fine.

Akarawin was released on bail of 100,000 baht. No one else has been charged.

Only a Captain? What kind of low-life socialite is this guy . . . added to which, a BMW and not a Lambo or Ferrari or Porsche?

A billionaire Heir socialite. The car he was driving was his 25 year old female passengers, according to the Press.

Oh look, here's a photo of dear Jimmy in Tatler-

Case for TD CSI- which large property company is Jimmy the Heir too? That is conspicuously not being reported.

Just makes you want to to break him like a twig.

    Benefit of the doubt, perhaps.
Yes, he buggered off home and left the guy dying or dead. His family owned up to it, as did he.
They attended the dead man's funeral and will pay up, hopefully big time as possibly the breadwinner is gone.

Alcohol or not . . . a jail sentence will do him good
