Female doctor fired for siding with demonstrators

A female doctor at Mongkut Wattana Hospital in Bangkok was fired last night (17 Oct 2020) for criticizing the government’s break-up of pro-democracy demonstrators on the night of 16 Oct 2020, the Thai-language daily Khao Sod reported today.

The hospital director, Pol Maj-Gen Rianthong Naenna, said the hospital had a clear policy not to work with co-workers who are sympathetic to “enemies.”

The female doctor, Jarotdao Rimpanichanakit, was one of 386 doctors who opposed the break-up of the demonstrators.

The emphasis on female is a little odd.

Thailand actually has very strict employment laws. Summarily firing her might well come back and bite them.

Presumably Pol Maj-Gen Rianthong Naenna decides who the "enemies" are.

I remember that a few upper-level doctors in Bkk announced that they refuse point blank to treat any injured Red Shirts around the 2008/10 riots.

IIRC it was pointed out that there is some sort of doctor's oath to treat any and all injured patients regardless of politics or nationality in a conflict.

    A sad state.
When most everything is associated with the ever looming policing/military/Ammat complex.

Funny, I didn't take it that way, only as a clarification, because we don't have an English word like Doctress.

Anyway, the key point is that a doctor in a private hospital can be dismissed for an opinion. Although this hospital is well-known as belonging to the ex-police major general. Retire from the police and open a hospital, as you do. I suppose he is used to laying down his own law. I hope she takes him to the Labour Office and that she prospers elsewhere.

There are labour courts in Thailand. As I said, despite how most people see it, there are very strict labour laws in Thailand.

They are a very crude and simplistic thinking people, ........." we have a policy of not working with enemies ".

That a police officer should also be an owner/ director of a hospital is no surprise. I once rented flat in a two tower development near Aree that was owned by the police major general who headed Bangkok's Central Traffic Ticket Bureau. I think he subsequently sold it to a Singapore outfit that re-branded it as a serviced apartment concern.

People should get their act together- and boycott the fek out of that hospital, and any other asset or businesses the cvnt owns or controls.

Remember that it was a top cop that owned the Santika nightclub.

That was opened in an Entertainment Free Zone, so it was legally licensed as a noodle shop.

iirc, it was a singer that went down for the fire and deaths, while relatives complained of gold chains and jewelry disappearing in the police morgue.

Kinda brings home just how many big, bodgy ran businesses the coppers own and operate here.

DOCTOR FIRED FOR OPPOSING USE OF CHEMICAL AGENTS ON PROTESTERS

A hospital director said he fired one of his doctors for signing a letter denouncing the use of chemical irritants in water cannons during crackdowns against protesters.

Surgeon Jarosdao Rimphanitchayakit, who worked at the privately owned Mongkutwattana Hospital, lost her job after director Maj. Gen. Rienthong Nanna said she violated the company policy of not colluding with “the enemy.” He also defended the police’s use of the water cannons, which left many protesters and journalists with a burning sensation.

Jarosdao was one of 386 doctors who signed an open letter criticizing the police’s use of force on pro-democracy demonstrators in Bangkok on Friday, calling an unwarranted attack on a peaceful assembly.

The letter, which now attracted 1,000 signatures from doctors across the country, said the use of high pressure water cannons mixed with chemicals is an “indiscriminate” and “violent measure” that should not be adopted against peaceful protesters.

The doctors also urged the police not to use any chemical agents that cause damage to the skin or respiratory system on unarmed demonstrators, and said they were disturbed by videos of police officers refusing to make way for ambulances during the crackdown.

Jarosdao was the only doctor from Mongkutwattana Hospital to sign the petition when it was unveiled on Saturday.

Rienthong is notorious for his extremist views against the pro-democracy camp and those who call for reform of the monarchy.

He had announced in January that all employees at his hospital must have their social media accounts screened for anti-establishment views, and said that those who support Future Forward Party and Redshirts should not seek treatment at his hospital. .

Apart from running the family-owned hospital, Rienthong is the founder of an ultraroyalist activist group that publicly identified those suspected of defaming the Royal Family and called for legal prosecution against them.
