School Director Accused of Sexually Assaulting 5 Girls

Five female Grade-8 students in Khon Kaen lodged complaints with Ban Phai police against a school director on Tuesday, accusing him of sexually assaulting them.

Pawanamporn Thaewnon-ngiew, a Thai teacher at Ban Thung Mon School in Ban Phai district, said she took the five girls to the police station after they told her of the alleged abuse.

Ms Thaewnon-ngiew said she had also met the girls’ parents to ascertain whether the teenagers would seek to press charges and only proceeded after being told they would.

Ms Thaewnon-ngiew said it was not the first time she had heard such allegations against the same director. Previously, girls in grades six, seven, eight and nine also reported being molested and seduced with offers of money.

Ban Phai police said the girls all said during questioning that the director had hugged and fondled them. They said he had also asked whether they needed money from him and asked if they had boyfriends.

All the girls said they regarded his behaviour as being improper but the accused man has denied the allegations and blamed the Thai teacher, who he said was always finding fault with him and the school.

He also told officers there are CCTV cameras throughout the school so his actions can be seen on the footage.

Chana Summat, director of a centre to protect students’ safety under the Office of the Basic Education Commission, said the director had been transferred to an inactive post at the Khon Kaen Primary Educational Service Area Office, pending the results of an investigation.

This fucking annoys me. It is a criminal offence and should be investigated (and if justified, prosecuted) regardless of whether or not the families can be coerced or bribed into not pursuing it.

they're minors who would be questioned by the police and presumably the lawyer for the accused.

of course the parents should be contacted and required to give consent....especially in a country with such strict defamation laws.

Bollocks. Criminal prosecutions should not depend on the consent of the victim (or their parents). Especially in a country as systemically corrupt as Thailand.

He pays a few people off and he's free to reoffend.

Grown up countries don't work like this.

    yeah, good plan.

let's have teachers bringing their students down to the police station without the consent of the parents.

    what could go wrong?

btw, whatever country you're from (don't know, don't care) do the laws allow teachers to have the police interview their students without the consent of the parents?

Who said anything about not having the parents present?

I'm talking about criminal prosecution, not civil litigation.

So if someone's kid saw a man rape and murder your wife, and the murderer paid their parents to keep the kid schtum, you'd be OK with that would you?
