People in the southern Pacific French territory of New Caledonia have once more voted to stay with France, narrowly rejecting independence in a tightly-fought referendum.
With all ballots tallied from the territory’s 304 polling stations, the “No” vote on Sunday won with 53.26 percent.

A good result for NC. They obviously realise that the Chinese really want become a new version of the old British Empire. The British dominated large parts of the world based on taking control of natural resources, in exchange for British Justice, Cricket, Steam trains and Missionaries.
The Chines use that old model as a template for hoarding similar resources, while creating a community dependent on China’s largesse.
Wonder what happens when the nickel deposits run out, and the marine stocks are overfished? Still, it precludes the need to build yet another island in the South China Sea!
