Just a quick note from the United States Of America.
I read about this situation and of course it peaked my interest since it's an absurdity from the perspective of a citizen of the United States Of America, where people are allegedly free to speak their minds online and in real life. As recent times have proven, this allegation seems questionable unless you are prepared for the onslaught of repercussions should you disagree with ANYTHING the insane left is pushing.

That being said, the first thing I'd like to so is address a few posts:
    1. by alleged Expat Headworx saying "f*** him" - Stay in Thailand with your Stockholm Syndrome
    2. by alleged Expat's raycarry and Edmond - Likewise, don't come back
    3. by the beta male from Vancouver who wrote "Nope. Any publicity is good publicity" - Typical Canadian low IQ as usual
    4. by alleged Expat Seekingasylum - Excellent post. Opening statement was concise and informative.
    5. by anyone else mocking the guy getting arrested - You are very well trained pets

And finally, my own 2 sheqels: This story is a nightmare for Thailand PR and Tourism. I was previously unaware of the Draconian defamation laws protecting that country's elites and, although considering a trip there for a vacation, would never, ever visit that country now that I'm aware of this situation. The post by Wesley B criticizing the resort had nothing exceptional about it except that Wesley B was apparently within reach. If I were within the Government of Thailand I would reprimand the resort personnel responsible for making this worldwide news, immediately drop all charges and have the tourism board make public comment that posting negative reviews about businesses in Thailand that fall within certain guidelines would not be punished; accompanied by a list of those guidelines which clarify and appeal to the common sense of a worldwide audience.

Well – I travel quite a bit to parts unknown and on occasion have picked pretty poor accommodations sight unseen for an overnight. No big deal as it’s only an overnight.

For a minivaca where I’ll be staying a couple days I will peruse the local resorts/hotels listing visitor reviews and will only consider candidates that are both above average in cost and have high marks in the visitor reviews. And I do actually read the visitor reviews. I do believe most reviews are very truthful and present the customers actual view of the property (out of the horses mouth). Dirty, bugs, noise, uncomfortable, and low quality food tend to be disqualifiers.

I also pay attention to the number of reviews. Less than a hundred don’t count. And poor reviews, well, you can’t please everybody and there are always a few folk who displeased. So, a small percentage of poor reviews won’t impact my decision if they are outweighed by good reviews.

In this specific case, 80 bad reviews versus 1,672 good reviews well, you get the point.

Why do these guys get such a bad rap from the haughty expat community ? They have talent. They can do some pretty cool pyrotec shit. If I'm sitting on my ass at the beach toking on a hookah or drinking , and I have nothing else to watch , I like seeing these shows.

I've never been pressured to give them a shekel either.

It seems some of you don't know the meaning of the word "troll" as used with Internet parlance.
Allow me to pontificate a bit. When accusing someone of being a "troll" on the Internet, the meaning of this term is one who deliberately posts something for the specific objective of getting a response, and most often that objective includes attempting to rile others. If there was any intelligence among those casting such errant, disparaging accusations it would have been obvious that the post was made in earnest sincerity. The accusations speak for themselves as pure projection of the reactive, emotionally driven mind; colloquially renown as the leftist mindset among the sane. I will however, close with an exemplification of how to troll properly.

To the Australians, who should be our Greatest Ally, you should feel rightful shame to side with the nonces that undoubtedly roam among your peers.

My advice to the Kingdom of Thailand's PR team remains.

Now I will leave you to your bantz, and commend you on making the decision to live among those who can not recognize why it is that you could not make a life residing among your countrymen.

They dip their ropes in paraffin and proceed to pollute the water by standing ankle deep in the sea and spinning the lit ropes to create a spark effect.

On Koh Chang, some hotels and guesthouses even have signs on the beachfront saying they do not support their antics due to the pollution they create.

Thanks for that bit of education, I would have never guessed what a troll actually is.

I read through Barrow's website last night, the guy is well and truely fooked. The hotel made tons of effort to warn him about the consequences and gave him multiple chances to remove the content.

At this point, he's probably lost his job due to the publicity and the lack of obtaining his NON-B. He can't leave Thailand because his passport has a hold on it, he'll need to either get a lawyer or learn what's needed to get a court case visa.

Police: KC man, Wesley G. Barnes, 34, accused of firing shots near Waldo Bar claimed he was federal agent

    BY TORIANO PORTER

    OCTOBER 19, 2017 10:54 PM

Wesley G. Barnes, 34, was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.
    KANSAS CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT

A Kansas City man accused of firing a weapon near Waldo Bar and later at a convenience store told people he was a federal agent prior to the initial incident, prosecutors said.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker charged Wesley G. Barnes, 34, with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.

Barnes is accused of firing shots from a gun after leaving Waldo Bar about 1 a.m. Wednesday. The bar is near 75th Street and Wornall Road.

Prosecutors believe Barnes also fired several shots about an half hour later at a QuikTrip near 103rd Street and Wornall Road.

According to court records, Barnes allegedly entered Waldo Bar and asked the bartender if police were around. He then pulled out a handgun and placed it on the bar and stated he was a federal agent.

The bartender asked him to leave, so he retrieved the gun and walked out.

A doorman told police Barnes got into a white Audi A4. Seconds later, the people inside the bar heard gunshots.

Court records indicate several shots were fired about a half hour later at QuikTrip while several people were inside or at the gas pumps.

According to court records, police traced Barnes through a credit card he used at the bar with the name of his wife.

Barnes’ bond was set at $200,000.

Not always. The story is currently first on the BBC's most read list:

Tourist faces jail in Thailand over hotel review - BBC News

Most potential tourists aren't concerned about the rights and wrongs. They don't study details. It is the idea that they could get locked up for writing a negative review. It also makes them question whether the online reviews in Thailand offer a balanced picture. In short, another deterrent for travellers who have a choice of destinations.

^ The guy is an expat, not a tourist. The difference being it's easy to get an expat arrested, just wait until they need to renew their visa. If it had been a tourist who left the kingdom, there isn't much the resort could have done.
