If all goes well, only 7 days of tourist quarantine : Thai Tourism Minister

To make the return of tourism more attractive, quarantine for visitors entering the kingdom may be reduced to seven days as soon as November, one month after entries are allowed again.

Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said that the change would come around mid November so long as no more than four of the first 300 tourists arriving on
Special Tourist Visas in October test positive for COVID-19.

Even for the reduced isolation period, during which guests will be sequestered to government-approved hotels and other facilities, will need to complete two swab tests, a strip test and a more reliable method called a polymerase chain reaction test.

Pipat said, if five or more of the first batch of inbound tourists tests positive for the coronavirus, the plan would be postponed to after November.
The new, cabinet-approved Special Tourist Visa allows visitors into Thailand for 90 days. It can be extended twice equal periods of time, making the stay valid up to nine months. The initial plan limits arrivals to 300 per week.
The first group of visitors is already booked to enter the country Thursday and will complete their 14-day quarantines on Oct. 15. A second batch of 300 has also been confirmed for the following week.

It's bound to be a clusterfuck, regardless of how they go.
Ummmm.....I believe they were to decide on "general" opening [w/the 14-day quarantine] for October in a couple days - in theory.
Doesn't look like that's gonna come about, as originally planned.

Can't really make a convoluted plan for November [and beyond] until you have October squared away.
    General/limited opening probably won't happen until Dec/Jan.
    Cunts.

Still looking into the possibilities of a home quarantine when the time rolls around.

Just wait until December/January and all systems go, no quarantine required perhaps a covid test before arriving and possibly when you arrive.

They have much to much to lose,December,January, February. high season and Chinese new year.

Not a critique since much the same is happening elsewhere, but after 8 months they still have no clue what they're dealing with which makes 14 days as arbitrary and meaningless as 7 or 17 days. So let's go with guesswork, change the rules, don't let on and hope nobody notices you're desperate for tourists/reopening, and doesn't matter if your cunning plan fails as it likely will due to controls and conditions, because the elbow's also been fcuking up its end.

If they want tourists, relax entry requirement to the basics, open yuge fcukoff quarantine resorts with girls, booze, entertainment and whatever else farangs want, they'll be full in no time, visitors stay at one their first two weeks and then let loose.

For the ones that live here, this has been a blessing. Beaches are clean, resorts with outstanding views are cheap, no nasty Chinese spitting out lugys and tossing cig butts around and rude Europeans running around half naked with their guts hanging out with no shame.

I have to say I am no hurry for them to open it up. Its nice to see Thai families that usually cannot afford it being able to get out and enjoy. Met some wonderful folks over the last few months traveling around. For me staying at beach front top end resorts for $40 to $50 a night has been outstanding. I told my wife best to enjoy it now. We have about another 3 or 4 months before it all goes back to the way it was.
