Quite possibly Covid related. The banks are not making as much money as they want, so adding charges.

A friend of mine has his pension in USD and takes THB out of the bank locally. He used SCB for years. Last time they charged hime B550 service fee on top of the B220 atm fee. He went in to ask at the bank and they were blunt, they said it was a new fee to make up for Covid losses. He will go to another bank in future.

Surely you are not suggesting that Thai banks do not compete in a transparent free market? I am shocked and horrified.

Interesting. I specifically asked, when I set it up, for the debit card to removed from my account to avoid any risk of it being misused.

I wonder if they'll try and charge me?

They've been doing it for years at Bangkok Bank.

SCB users should be charged double to help out the shareholders.

They're all at it; does he think he'll pay less at another bank?

Thainess is straightforward and logical: mai bpen rai if our pissed off customers go elsewhere we can capture customers from other banks/restaurants/hotels/services that have also gone elsewhere.

There are lifestyles practices that counter the mode of banksters [deployed the world over] and their seemingly maniacal ethos.
