Meth Seized in Australia Originated From Thailand

Two western Sydney residents have been arrested after 600 litres of methamphetamine hidden in coconut milk cans was seized. The drugs originated in Thailand.

Australian Federal Police (AFP) conducted a controlled delivery of the cans to a warehouse in Girraween, NSW, where a 29-year-old woman and 20-year-old man were arrested after receiving the shipment.

They were each charged with attempting to possess a commercial quantity of an illegal drug. The pair appeared at the Sydney Central Local Court and were refused bail. They are due to reappear in November.

In August, Australian Border Force (ABF) members examined airfreight cargo containing 86 boxes of coconut milk cans after it arrived in Sydney from Thailand.

Liquid from one can was tested and returned a positive result for methamphetamine, sparking the AFP investigation.

Detective Superintendent Geoffrey Turner commented: “Only a well-resourced organised crime syndicate would be able to finance and facilitate an importation of this scale.”

More likely 'originated' in the Shan State and transited Thailand.

Drug Production in Golden Triangle Flourishes Despite Pandemic

"Last year, seizures of harmful methamphetamine in East and Southeast Asia reached 140 tons with the vast majority produced in Mynmar’s Shan State across the border from Chiang Rai Thailand. With the rise of production there, borders with Northern Thailand and Laos have become one of the most significant drug trafficking points in the world.
It is estimated that drug production and trafficking in the region last year generated profits of at least US$71 billion (2.2 trillion baht), with methamphetamine accounting for US$61 billion (1.9 trillion baht), ...."

I'd say profits last year of USD 61 Billion certainly makes them a well-resourced crime syndicate.

If they're exporting in bulk they might try putting it in fish sauce bottles, fill a container, break a few bottles, and after 2-3 weeks on the high seas no customs officials or their dogs will go anywhere near it.

    This is not advice.

Thai coconut milk cannery denies involvement in illicit drugs seizure in Australia

A Thai coconut milk cannery has denied any involvement in the smuggling of liquid methamphetamine into Australia, contained in cans apparently bearing the company’s brand name.

In August, Australian Border Force officers inspected an airfreight shipment, containing 86 cases of canned coconut milk, after it arrived in Sydney from Thailand. A test on the liquid from one can indicated the presence of methamphetamine, sparking an investigation.

The Australian Federal Police conducted a controlled delivery of the shipment to a warehouse in Girraween, NSW, where a woman and a 20-yer old man were arrested after accepting delivery of the shipment.

The coconut milk cannery, Thaveevong Agriculture Company said, in a statement released today (Tuesday), that the company had nothing to do with the illicit drugs, pointing out that the cans used in the smuggling attempt are different from their cans, which use easy open tops.

The label “Thaveeros” on the fake cans is also different from the one used by the company, said the statement.

Pol Lt-Gen Chinnapat Sarasin, Commissioner of Narcotics Suppression Bureau, said he suspects the 600 litres of liquid methamphetamine were airfreighted to Australia by a private delivery service.

A mate of mine used to bring his beer kits into saudi by putting them into his kids nappy bag. Empty a jar of peanut butter into one of the nappies and make sure that you could see it leaking out of the nappy when you opened the bag.
