^^I've often observed among the dull-brained ageing expat septic/antipodean ditch diggers living in their ghastly suburban ghettoes their predilection for gauging the dubious 'success' of their own miserable wretchedly tedious existences in comparison to an imagined hell that might await them if they were to suffer some adversity or other.

Still, Bozo, at least you have the comfort of being too stupid to realise just how drearily dull you truly are.

You may find that you and the other rabble of angry tools need to take a break,as no doubt many of you are suffering from covid 19 related depression.

The busiest season of the year is approaching Thailand will open its doors to tourism.

What makes you think that a third world dictatorship will do any better than much better equipped western democracies. If those countries are struggling with answers to a global pandemic, blind optimism is unlikely to win the game. Fool.

You may find that many of these so called western democracies have made a pigs ear of answering any questions related to the virus, whilst these so called third world dictatorships have successfully contained Covid 19.

Though with you being an Oik,you wouldn't really understand this.

may I refer you to the link that you may understand when you see numbers and the countries that have been successful in stopping Covid.

In order to do this Thailand closed its doors. They will remain shut until a vaccine that works is released. Keeping you out.

Valid point! They were talking about bringing limited numbers of well-heeled tourists from less affected countries in who'd have to quarantine for 2 weeks in designated (expensive) resorts in Phuket before being able to even leave the grounds and I thought it *might* have been workable, but even that idea looks to have been ditched now. The chances of borders just opening up and anyone from anywhere being allowed to fly here in January are less than zero.

Even if borders open up, people still have to buy expensive air tickets then, apparently, can only get the extendable visa if accommodation is paid up front and then there is the mandatory insurance.

I don't understand how it all joins up. If I were wanting to visit Thailand for 6 months I don't suppose I'd plan to stay in just one place. Even the Mandarin would get boring after a couple of weeks. Airfares are duscouraging, esoecially to people like me still waiting for 3 refunds after 6 months. Then when, not if, a second wave arrives in Thailand maybe the travellers will be stuck here as the healthcare system is overloaded and they can't find other flights or their home country closes its borders.
Meanwhile, how does this insurance work? If a traveller lands with expensive travel insurance from the home country and if Immigration don't accept it then must the traveller buy from the gang of 16 over the counter at the airport? If they are refused because of pre-existing conditions then what? Deported?

Usually December is peak season here and I can't see many people flocking to travel here that soon, with so many uncertainties. They would have to be more cashed up and more risk tolerant than I to book a trip like that.

So that means we'll miss pretty much a complete year's inboynd tourism.

^ There are a large number of retired, long-stay tourists that own/share accommodation and enjoy Thailand during the European winter months. Thailand doesn't want to lose this segment of the industry and hence the offer.

Thailand is holding a poor hand, not entirely its own fault and damned whichever route the leaders go, but thinking to open for tourists this year, generously assuming they would come, while second waves are at various stages around the globe, stinks of negligence.

Despite low official virus numbers another lockdown is not off the table, and aside from more hardship at the lower end this would tank the economy, while bold words from those positioned to rake it in whichever way it goes do little to brighten economic prospects.

On the bright side, if we do return to full or partial lockdown I expect the robbers to distribute a lot more baht to the people than they did last time, so that the second wave doesn't cripple the most vulnerable as the first did. Even 3W dictators should know that angry people with nothing don't fear change, and that if we see more 300m queues shuffling toward a mouthful of food the rumblings could well grow to cost them dear.

^They're damned if they do and damned if they don't. One one hand it's one of very few Covid-free countries but of course that's crippled the International tourism sector. One the other hand if they let tourists back in and Covid spreads, to go back into full lockdown would kill even the local tourism sector again along with severe disruptions to the everyday way of life (markets closing again, curfews, distancing regulations brought back, pubs and restaraunts close again, etc)

Fair points. They still have to do something to demonstrate that their accommodation is covered and I can only speculate how Immigration will be with someone, for example, staying 6 months rent free in a friend's condo.
(Maybe there is market in house sitting, people who want their properties watched over whilst they are away for a year. If there is a house with a pool then anyone can pm me. My rates are reasonable.)
Anyway travellers still face airfare and insurance questions. It isn't as simple as grabbing a hand-carry bag and jumping on a flight from Chicago, or wherever.

As we've seen Thailand is running around in circles, trying to open up to Tourism.

Now they not only have Covid 19 to deal with, but political unrest raising its head again, with unemployment possibly topping 8 million by the end of the year, and the stimulus packages becoming less likely to keep the people content.

Those same people will be wanting someone to blame, the student Protests have came at a time that the people will notice and become involved in.

Plus the fact that many Thais are greedy bastards, and now covid19 related deaths are decreasing around the globe.

The Thai govt will be more than happy to open up,to relieve the pressure on themselves.

Though it may well be to late for that.

They even just get back the Chinese tourists who have a very low rate of Covid, they will be very happy.

Mandatory testing prior to flight to Thailand.

    Efficient track and trace app.

Thailand could set the standard of tourism revival, or of course fail. Start small with selected destinations for short stay tourists. Strict monitoring of long stay property owning snowbirds.

As above but also the existing two week isolation would mean little inconvenience.

The flights have always been higher during peak months. Insurance possibly dearer, but risk is the bred and butter in that industry and quickly monitored and premiums adjusted to match.

I suspect those hotels, restaurants, flights .... currently operating at 0 to 20% capacity, would prefer a 40% load rather than 10%.

another lock down has to be their greatest fear.
they'll continue to make noise about opening up for 1200 tourists a month on charters and private jets, but that's absurd on its face and mainly just PR to mollify the people working in the tourism industry. the govt. knows international tourism is completely fucked for this year and everyone will need to wait/hope for 2021.

I don't know about the " its getting like Antifa democrat supporters,on here" statement, what does it mean? and how does it help to keep this thread on topic?
But I agree with the "Stay on topic" comment.
I see this thread, a subject I am interested in, because I plan to come back to Thailand as soon as I am allowed and is safe to travel, and I think to myself, "Maybe there is some new information" ?
Well there is a lot of new information, but none of it pertaining to the tread subject matter. Most of the information contain in the later pages pertains to your opinion of each other, and I am sure after this post . your opinion about me. I will confess , as interesting that you all are , me being a sociopath, I don't care about you all ; I just want to know about what I need to do to get back to Thailand and more specifically , what type of insurance will I need.
Frankly this , every thread deteriorating onto a pissing contest is getting a bit boring.
Here you go, my contribution to taking this thread even further
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
