Paul Koodravsev: Australian man dies after having coronavirus in Bali

A successful architect living in Bali has become the second Australian to die after having COVID-19 on the holiday island.

Australians who stayed in Bali throughout the course of the coronavirus pandemic have been granted an additional month before they will be required to leave the country due to...

An Australian man had died in Bali, three weeks after contracting COVID-19.
Paul Koodravsev, 62, who was originally from Perth and lived in the Bali beach side town of Sanur, first tested positive for the virus on July 25 and was admitted to the COVID ward at Udayana University Hospital.
He died on Sunday from multiple organ failure caused by the virus, the West Australian reported.

“The cause of death was due to multi-organ failure. He was hospitalised with a positive confirmation of COVID, but also had many comorbidities,” Ketut Suarjaya, the head of Bali Health Services, said.
“Before he died, he had recovered from COVID. A third swab at the Udayana University hospital on August 10, was negative. He was hospitalised for 18 days and died on August 16.”

The West Australian reported Mr Koodravsev was a highly successful architect and designed some of Bali’s most stylish villas.
He is the second Australian to die in Bali from coronavirus.
The first was David Sparenburg, 53, who died in a guesthouse near the tourist hotspot of Canggu.

They've been told they can stay there because they have a bigger chance of dying?

    Had to look that up:

In medicine, comorbidity is the presence of one or more additional conditions often co-occurring with a primary condition. Comorbidity describes the effect of all other conditions an individual patient might have other than the primary condition of interest, and can be physiological or psychological.

I did not know Paul, RIP, but it seems he did not die of COVD-19. The headlines may be misleading but the fact that he had it is worrying.

Sanur has a lot of older foreigners who spend a lot of time at the beach or in the bars. The restaurants and bars reopened about 3 months ago and life was almost back to normal. Social distancing was getting more relaxed.

I hope he did not pick it up or spread it in the beach.

When Jimbaran reopened in late June one foreign run restaurant packed them in, presumably to make money. I told my friend in the enforcement unit of my concerns and he closed the beach for 2 weeks. I do not regret doing that, but it was difficult for the next few weeks with cabin fever.

Left in mid July, now in almost COVD-19 free Malaysia

So you’ve come from COVID hotspot to Malaysia almost COVID free? I hope you didn’t bring it with you.

Bali is a mild spot, malaysia is quite chilly spot.

Malaysia has amazingly actually got on top of it, the Ministry of Health has surprised everyone.

I had to have tests in Bali before travelling through Jakarta and when I arrived in Malaysia I honestly told the doctor the testing in Bali was unsatisfactory, the sample date on the cert was two days after they took the swab. On the spot swab test was ordered and took 30 minutes and was negative, then I proceeded to 14 days home quarantine under order of the Health Ministry with a pink wristband fastened on. Each day I reported in by app to give an update on my condition (bored shitless).

After 13 days I went for an antibodies test, whereupon the wristband was cut off, I was declared clear and given a letter confirming I was legally out of quarantine.

Not easy, very happy I did not spread it.

Since then there has been multiple cases of people not bothering with quarantine or second tests, one has caused a large cluster in North of Malaysia by going to work in his restaurant to support his family and has been given a heavy fine and jail sentence. Another case involves a Minister who threw away his wristband and went to meetings and voted in parliament, the Elite truly think they are above it all.

Both were tested at the airport and had negative results.

I doubt the Minister will spend one day in jail, but they both willingly ignored quarantine and went to work and took the risk.

Now you cannot go to home quarantine because of these cases, you have to go to a government centre / hotel and be locked up. I would have struggled with that.

Bali is muddling along. I booked accomodation for September but pushed it back to November. TBH I'm expecting to have to cancel that. I'm sure when it opens again it will rapidly go to shit.

I have airpoints that expire in August next year.
Enough to get to Bali and back. I'm not real hopeful of using them.
