Special Groups of Foreigners Can Now Enter Thailand

Business operators can proceed to bring in foreign visitors under Phase 6 of the easing of lockdown measures when they are ready, said the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CSSA).

CCSA spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin said the CCSA has approved in principle the entry of four groups of foreign nationals and these visitors can resume their visits when local business operators have put in place disease control measures.

The entry is granted to foreign business representatives, specialists, diplomats, migrant workers, exhibitors, film crews, medical tourists and Thailand Elite card members. One requirement is that they are required to stay in “organisational quarantine” facilities and such facilities must meet disease control standards.

“If they want to resume their visits, those concerned must have organisational quarantine centres ready. We don’t have to say this easing will start on 1st August. These groups of foreign visitors can resume the visits when the local operators are ready,” he said.

The CCSA on Friday reported six new cases of coronavirus disease infection among returnees from Egypt and the Netherlands, raising the total to 3,310.

Dr Visanuyothin said five of the new patients had returned from Egypt. Four were male students, two aged 21 years and two aged 24.

The four arrived on 24th July and were quarantined in Chon Buri province. They tested positive on Wednesday while being asymptomatic.

The other returnee from Egypt was a male aged 28. He arrived at Suvarnabhumi airport on Thursday with a fever and breathing problems. He tested positive right away and was sent to a hospital in Chachoengsao province.

The returnee from the Netherlands was a 52-year-old male chef who worked on a ship. He arrived last Saturday and was quarantined in Samut Prakan. He tested positive on Wednesday.

Dr Visanuyothin also warned that with rising COVID-19 infection rates overseas, Thailand could not expect to remain permanently free of new local community infections. Authorities could only hope to prolong the infection-free period as long as possible, and then cope with any outbreak as it occurs.

No, you are not wrong. However, you can apply for or request a certificate of entry - doesn't mean the Thai Embassy will grant it. Plus, there are a slew of conditions, tests, insurance, etc. see the click for more information tab below.

During the weekly English video from the CCSA last Friday,:

At 15:40 there is an attempt to clarify the issuing of the Certificate Of Entry (COE) by Thai embassies and Consulates abroad.

There always has some confusion regarding ones country of origin, i.e. which country you are "travelling from" as opposed to which passport you are using to enter Thailand in these virus ruled times.

For example people travelling from Laos to Thailand where considered to be from the UK, if a UK passport was being used.

Now, IMHO, it "appears" that a person, "living"in or possibly "travelling from" Laos and travelling from Laos to Thailand, using a UK passport is considered to require a Laos issued COE rather that a UK issued COE.

Kinda makes you wonder how a country from which you are exiting can issue you a "Certificate of Entry" for another one.

The suggestion is that you go to the Thai Embassy in the country you are in, and ask for the procedure for obtaining a "Certificate of Entry" from the Thailand MFA.

The problem is that as far as I can see there is no insurance policy available to resident farang living in Thailand who wish to return to Thailand to resume their stay, as a spouse or retiree married to a Thai, after completing a visit to the UK.

So, unless one is actually sponsored by an employer on a package including full health insurance , no non-Thai can return to the Kingdom under the current rules.

the companies mentioned in the cutting below offer comprehensive covid cover for travellers, but whether long term trips or residence will be covered is not mentioned.

Global insurer Allianz Partners has also decided to include cover for Covid-19 related cancellations and medical costs in all travel insurance policies provided by Allianz Assistance.

Rachel Temperton, Head of Travel and Tourism at Allianz Partners UK, commented: “The Covid-19 global crisis has demonstrated the devastating impact a pandemic can have. Travellers and the travel industry – including insurers – faced a wide range of unexpected situations that never had to be dealt with before. Plans were interrupted or cancelled and medical emergencies abroad were complicated by many new and challenging hurdles. It is vital that in the new world we find ourselves in, we offer a comprehensive insurance product that enables people not only to start to travel abroad again, but to travel with confidence.”

Meanwhile, the airline Emirates will now offer free coverage for Covid-19-related expenses for passengers, including medical and quarantine expenses. The Middle-East airline will cover expenses of around US$245,000 and quarantine costs of $160 per day for 14 days for passengers diagnosed with Covid-19 during their travel.

Post 6 seems to say retiree visa is not allowed for entry.

I do actually have covid insurance, taken out by work. Not planning on going out country though.

Yeah, which means that you either need wings or a one-way 'repatriation' flight followed by two week quarantine as jof has done.

Yes it appears so now. Or are you, taking it one step further, suggesting one can obtain a COE in Thailand, for re-entry into Thailand

As I have already posted when I tried to leave Thailand to travel the Laos back in March/June prior to the extension being announced, I was informed by the border IO that because I would be entering back into Thailand from Laos, that I would be refused entrance, .

Because I was travelling on a UK passport.

It now appears from the video of last Friday, the "rule" has now been qualified to; the country you are arriving from, not where your passport is issued from/nationality.

Which is news to me and hopefully recognised by the Thai Immigration officers. If and when the local countries and Thailand agree on cross border entry, flight or foot, becomes available.

Where am I suggesting that you fucking idiot?

I am simply pointing out that, given Thailand's reputation for inconsistency from one part of the government to another, that you should actually check with the embassy in the country from which you plan to enter, rather than believing anything some dick says on a Youtube video.

My reading is that such indemnity is for those on periods abroad not exceeding three months and are limited to UK residents who can demonstrate at least 6 months spent in the UK before the policy is issued.

I am exploring from this end through both expat and Thai brokers but the size of the required indemnity, a minimum of 3 million baht, for a year in respect of an old grunter such as I suggests a significant premium. I shall let folk know.
