Pattaya Motorcycle Taxi Driver Shot in the Head – Murdered in Broad Daylight

CHON BURI: A motorcycle taxi driver was killed by a gunman riding pillion on another motorcycle in Pattaya on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Prathum Sa-ardnak, 47, who worked from a queue at Bali Hai Bay in South Pattaya, was shot in the head about 1.30 pm by a man with a handgun, in soi 17 at Moo 10 in tambon Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district.

Police recovered a spent .45 pistol cartridge from the scene.

Prathum had dropped off a passenger just before he was murdered.

Prisda Klabpong, 28, told police she had returned from a trip to Koh Lan and hired Prathum to take her from Bali Hai pier to an area behind Muang Pattaya 8 School where she had parked her car.

As she was opening her car door, she heard the sound of a gunshot. Startled, she spun around and saw Prathum drop to the ground.

She saw a black Honda PCX motorcycle with two men on it speed away. She did not notice the motorcycle’s licence plate number.

Other details were not known. Police were beginning an investigation.

The police would have been wiser not to name the young lady. They may be inadvertently putting an innocent prospective witness in danger.

That would be easy enough to know when it happens, if you were following them.

Looks like the driver was clearly targeted, not bystanders, otherwise he could have been plugged anywhere along the route.

I go with money, not a lot of it, but more than the cost of a hit.

The cops will soon round up the culprit/s, but only if they're motivated.

Pattaya police say insults led to fatal shooting

Pattaya Motorcycle Taxi Driver Shot in the Head – Murdered in Broad Daylight-screen-shot-2020-07-31-14-a

2 suspects, arrested early yesterday and accused of the fatal shooting in broad daylight of a motorbike taxi driver in Pattaya, have been charged with murder. Police traced and arrested the 2 prime suspects, named as 39 year old Manat Imamu and 45 year old Niphon Panthong, in Chon Buri’s Bangsaen district, as they attempted to withdraw money from an ATM.

The pair had left behind the motorbike, pistol and clothing used in the crime at a small apartment in Nongprue before fleeing. Authorities were able to trace the route the suspects took when they fled the scene using Pattaya’s CCTV security cameras, despite about half of them being out of order.

A reenactment of the crime – a critical part of Thai law to achieve a guilty verdict – was conducted yesterday This involved the suspects showing Pattaya police how the crime unfolded. Police blocked off portions of the area behind Pattaya School 8, near the city’s famous Walking Street night district, for the procedure.

The Pattaya City police chief told reporters that one of the suspects admitted to the primary motive: the suspects were part of a drinking circle with the victim, 47 year old Prathum Saartnak, earlier in the week. Prathum allegedly made several personal insults about one of 2 in front of the group of drinkers, causing the group to mock the suspect. Due to the loss of face, the suspects decided the only way to settle the issue was murder.

The men are charged with murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in public and carrying a gun in public without a permit. They remain in police custody without bail.
