Red Bull Heir Has Charges Dropped!

You just can't make this up.....

Charges have been dropped against the heir to the energy drink empire, Vorayud Yoovidhya, related to the death of a Thai policeman in 2012, Thai police say.

Colonel Sampan Luangsajjakul of the Royal Thai Police told CNN "we were informed by Office of Attorney General about their final decision not to indict Mr. Vorayuth Yoovidhya on June 12. So we have proceeded to inform him (Yoovidhya) about the decision and the revocation of arrest warrant."

A letter sent to Yoovidhya at his home in Bangkok by Thonglor Police Station and seen by CNN says: "Office of the Attorney General have decided to acquit Mr. Vorayuth Yoovidhya on all charges." National Police Commissioner "has not objected the decision" and "we have proceeded to revoke arrest warrant." The document didn't elaborate.

Vorayuth Yoovidhya, 28, was behind the wheel of his Ferrari on September 3, 2012, when it collided with an on-duty policeman on a motorbike in downtown Bangkok leading to the death of the police officer. Yoovidhya was subsequently charged with drink driving, negligent death and committing a hit and run.

Charges dropped against Red Bull heir over policeman death

Mr Yoovidhaya was accused of hitting the officer with his car in the capital, Bangkok, then fleeing.
He repeatedly failed to meet police to face the charges, which include reckless driving causing death.

Thai Police say these charges have now been dropped, but it is unclear why.

Mr Vorayuth is the grandson of Chaleo Yoovidhaya, who co-founded the Red Bull empire with Austrian Dietrich Mateschitz. At the time of his death in 2012, Chaleo was the third richest person in Thailand, according to Forbes magazine, with a net worth of $5bn (£3.93bn).

Police Sergeant-Major Wichian Klanprasert was riding his motorbike along Bangkok's Sukhumvit Road when he was hit by a grey Ferrari, which dragged his body more than 100m (109yds) down the road, before driving off.

Investigating officers followed a trail of brake fluid to a luxury home less than a kilometre away. The badly-dented Ferrari was there, but initially the police detained a driver employed by the family as their main suspect.

When they subsequently discovered the car had actually been driven by Mr Vorayuth, then 27, he was tested and found to have excessive alcohol in his blood - but, he said, this was from drinking at home after the accident.

Mr Vorayuth's badly-dented Ferrari was found in the compound of his family's home in 2012He was arrested but then released shortly afterwards. Subsequently, he was summoned repeatedly to face charges, but each time his lawyers said he was unable to do so, citing overseas work commitments and illness.

An initial investigation team had to be disbanded after an officer was accused of covering up for Mr Vorayuth's involvement.
Thai authorities finally issued an arrest warrant for Mr Vorayuth five years after the accident, after he missed eight legal summons.

The closely watched case has fuelled criticism that Thailand's elite enjoy special treatment by the authorities.

Indeed. Disappointing, but this is how the world works.

I just wonder if it will gain much traction or outrage in Thialand?

Barely worth a comment, legal technicalities can be purchased as a formality if you pay enough to the right people, and the only uncertainty in this case is who got how much.

    Shame on our glorious leaders!

It's not that that the place is a corrupt snake pit of avarice and cronyism, that there is no functioning rule of law or that Thai justice is oxymoronic, it's the dismal fact they have no shame and are utterly indifferent to their immorality yet cling to the absurd hypocrisy the country is somehow worthy of pride that truly sickens one.

Clearly, the family have ben well recompensed.
