Van driver charged with murder after failed attempt to abduct woman in Bangkok

A man suspected of allegedly trying to kidnap a woman and being responsible for her husband's death was arrested in Bangkok.

Thungmahamek Police Station on Wednesday (July 22) announced the arrest of Nadet Sitmanomai, 44, driver of the van.

On July 21, Natchada (last name withheld), 35, was returning home from near Lumpini Park with her husband, Somkiat, 42, at 3am when she was pulled into a grey Volkswagen van. Somkiat tried to stop the van by jumping in front of it, but was run over and severely injured. He later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The woman managed to jump out of the van near Wat Chong Lom in Bangkok’s Yannawa district and was spotted asking people for help. Her clothes were torn.

Police nabbed the suspect while he was shopping at a Tesco Lotus Express in Bangkok’s Jomthong district. Nadet reportedly was caught using Natchada’s mobile phone and wearing the same shirt as when the alleged crime was committed.

Nadet reportedly confessed that he was the driver of the van, which belonged to his employer who owns a factory in Samut Sakhon province. He added that he occasionally took the van out without the employer’s knowledge.

After the incident, Nadet reportedly said that he ditched the van on the sideway in Jomthong district, so officials went and retrieved the vehicle for inspection. Police initially charged Nadet with murder, kidnapping, and carrying a firearm.

The gf's summary of the Thai news version is that this was just a 'bad guy'. Seems he used his boss's van for private visits to Lumpini where he liked to pick up working ladyboys for rough sex in the van. Details as to how rough are not available but the streetwalkers know the van and all run away when they see it. So on this occasion he's all fired-up and no one to play with, so he just grabbed the woman who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Some might say that on the street around Lumpini at 0300 hrs is always going to be the wrong time. Anyway, it ended sadly for her husband.

Probably only a matter of time before the boys took a razor blade to him and feed him his pecker.

    Lumphini Park serial rapist arrested

An alleged serial rapist who preyed on Lumpini Park sex workers has been arrested and the van he allegedly used in a Tuesday abduction and homicide recovered.
Thung Maha Mek police last night arrested 44-year-old Nadech Sitmanomai at a Lotus Express convenience store on Phuttha Bucha Road in the Bang Mot area of Bangkok’s Thung Khru district after the vehicle was found parked beside a factory in nearby Bang Pakok.
Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Pakapong Pongpetra said the suspect had confessed to every accusation against him and acknowledged it wasn’t his first crime. He also said the van was registered to a factory in Samut Prakan, where Nadech has worked as a driver for six years.

The police said they were able to track down Nadech after contacting the factory. Nadech said his employer was not aware of his actions.
On Tuesday night, Nadech allegedly forced Natchada Kiengkaiwaykin, 35, into the vehicle, which sported a fake handwritten licence plate and sexually assaulted her. Her boyfriend, Somkiat Kiengkaiwaykin, jumped onto the van as it sped away from the park and was fatally injured after the driver slammed into a traffic sign near the Thai-Belgium bridge.

The streets around Lumphini Park are popular cruising spots for sex workers. Other sex workers who witnessed the abduction told the police it wasn’t the first time it had happened.
The police said that based on their initial investigation, the suspect has been charged with murder and kidnapping, with the former punishable by up to life imprisonment while the latter is punishable by up to three years in prison and a THB60,000 fine.

At 3 a.m he obviously took her for being a sex worker and thought her punter (husband) wouldn't get involved. Chances are that the 'husband' allowed his wife to sell her wares and was only picking her up after her shift ended.

Essentially, because no self-respecting Thai married couple would be walking on the streets of Lumpini at 0300 hrs.

Could be a night out followed by a romantic or convenient walk back home. I've been out walkies with women at that time of night, and they weren't all whores.

Maybe it was a setup, he paid the killer to off her, changed his mind or decided he needs an ironclad alibi and overdid the histrionics, who knows; definitely one for TDCI.
