Bikers charged after riding on wrong side leads to fatal accident

A man and a woman were charged with riding on the wrong side of the road after an accident resulted in one person's death while another was injured in Samut Prakarn province.

Muang Samut Prakarn Police Station said on Sunday (July 19) that both the man and the woman allegedly involved in a road accident on July 18 on Sai Luad Road of Paknam subdistrict had turned themselves in.

Jampa Boonmajuab, 50, reportedly confessed that she was riding a motorcycle on the wrong side of the road on Saturday when two women on a motorcycle saw her and immediately swerved, resulting in the two crashing into a parked car.

Jampa reportedly told police that she did not stop to help as other people had already rushed in to help.

Nuchanart Thasiboon, 38, who was riding the bike that crashed into the car was killed while Benjawan Mcdull, 34, who was riding pillion broke her left arm.

Somsak Pomnoy, 54, a motorcycle taxi driver, also turned himself in as he was also driving on the wrong side of the road closely following Jampa.

Somsak reportedly said that motorcycle taxis in the area usually drive on the wrong side of the road because it is a shorter distance rather than going to the U-turn point which is around 500 metres away.

Police charged Somsak and Jampa with driving on the wrong side of the road, driving recklessly resulting in death or severe injuries, and not stopping to provide help after involvement in a road accident.

Motorcy monkeys travelling in a contraflow direction is the fucking norm here in Second Road, Pattaya. No pedestrian who has been here more than a day fails to look both ways when traversing the carriageway.

I didn't know it's a criminal offence not to help accident victims, and was under the impression that giving assistance could leave you financially and criminally responsible for injuries or worse, even if you did not cause them.

    Anyone know?
